RE: Omicrons systems layout re-work. - Slavik - 12-30-2013

After having seen Update 4 and getting a huge amount of questions from the corsair side of life I'm gonna ask why there is a direct link between omicron 94(the Benitez owned guard system) and Omega 41.

The entire lore behind Omicron 94, when it was originally created, was that it is another border between unknown nomad territories and Corsair Territories. The unstable jumphole in the cloud to the north-east is supposed to lead to nomad territory. It was made unstable as there was no decent system to link it to back in the past. However with the rewiring of systems I think you can make that work no?

Battleship delos is there to protect against unkown contacts spotted in the cloud. The weaponsplatforms in the cloud and the wrecks in the cloud all make it quite obvious it should be nomads in there.

Besides that, Thira colony is a place of last refuge for the corsair people should the hessians ever succesfully invade. A jumphole from omega 41 into the last refuge would make this lore quite weird.

The official Benitez request is to not link omicron 94 to omega 41. Suggestions is to either link it to Delta or Lost. In an optimal situation we'd want it linked to a nomad system however we assume that it would cause to much issues with the trade system

It also acts as a natural defense against larger ships since they have a hard time maneuvering. It adds a lot to strategy and should be kept the way it is.

If by 'dangerous natural defense' you mean 'omega <-> omicron ****block' then yeah, I guess it is.

I'm just saying, carve a donut-shaped path through the asteroids and mines around the whole system so it doesn't take half an hour to get from one end of the system to the other.

Not sure if Slavik is talking about the system that I mean, but you know the one with the Don Quichote wreck and the moon in it, be sure to keep that. That is one of the few systems that is actually fun to discover, because it has a story or "lore" how you call it. Keep that, connect it differently via jumpholes if necessary, and get rid of all the junk copy-pasted stations and systems that add no real content.

I would also urge you to implement the new omicrons as soon as possible, as soon as they are made smaller and fun to play again, without waiting for someone to finish some other stuff like gallia storyline that nobody cares about.

...

Why? It was just an idea I was toying with. The system is effectively a dead end, so I was considering different ways it might become more accessible, in order to bring more activity to the system. However, since I posted v4, I've scrapped the idea of that Jump Hole anyway in favour of leaving it as-is.

Map v5 uploaded. This isn't an update exactly, but it's a screenshot from my FLCompanion that shows what the changes look like once applied.

maybe link o91 to o41 and o94 to kappa.
or even o91 to o47, more interesting.
this way none of corsairs systems won't be dead end.

All I'll say about these changes is that they are very disappointing and conservative, I'm not happy to see everything I made logical arguments for completely written off. But it's the Discovery development team, so conservative is the order of the day I s'pose.

It's about time you noticed this...

Firstly, it's mostly all my work. Secondly, most of the changes you proposed around the upper Omicrons and Sigmas couldn't be done, because (a) Treewyrm asked me not to touch the connections with Nomad worlds, and (b) because I ran out of time to review / expand the Sigmas. Anything not in those two regions I haven't touched... yet.

RE: Omicrons systems layout re-work. - Durandal - 01-07-2014

Oh I noticed it the day it was posted, I just wanted to see how long it would take to degenerate into a nothing ever changes sort of deal, which it did.

You already know all my reasons for the changes I proposed, and you know they make sense. Nothing else to be said.

RE: Omicrons systems layout re-work. - Treewyrm - 01-12-2014

Most certainly not a final version, actually more of an earlier one, but something interesting. And it wouldn't be fun if a few things hadn't their named blurred/hidden away... for guesswork and stuff.

Well, Minor being the new (old) hopefully activity hub. Okay, np, np. I just hope it is not that big as it used to be.
Getting rid of Zeta, oh man, there goes my most loved omicron system. I know it was flawed as being too big for interactions, but...the atmosphere was much better than current Omicron Delta.

Next thing: So, Omicron-92 will be removed, too? Hmm, ok, np, but what will be that system that connects Mu to the Sigmas (which is quite obvious from the your map, Treewyrm)?
