Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Virus - 03-16-2009 ' Wrote:Instead of making them special in stats, making them have special visuals and sound effects would be cooler I think. (Do Phantom guns have special effects just now? Not seen them.) The Ahriman 2.00 and Hellion shield buster have really, really nice effects. Lamia's have effects similar to the old Kraken, only pale. I like the first two, and personally find the Lamia rather dull. Personally, I wouldn't mind a better look for it, but I'm not one to push for it. On a side note, my RM Wrath and Gunboat want cloaks. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - JakeSG - 03-16-2009 Perhaps around 15-20% more powerful, but a little slower than the average gun by say 50M/s? Ideally they should have enough of an advantage to keep them alive during group slaughters, but not enough to severely unbalance an even fight. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Varyag - 03-16-2009 It comes down to people's impression of the phantoms. (I guess I am in the minority or something) I have never once had an RP encounter with them in 2 years so they come across as just plain PVPers to me. Add on top of that the loss of a few ships to them for the "we likes them" reason (one of which was kinda expensive to replace) and then the huge buff to said ships with the buff of the weapons to mount on them. I think the reason that people don't complain about the SCRA and xenos having nice weapons is that they are a part of the game people can relate to and not some mythical group who most people don't understand and just end up having to fight most of the time when they show up. An example of accepted uberness is Monstar.... not many complain about him getting his own ship, then again his RP is understandable even if you don't read the forums. I know this is going to be brushed aside as envy (not even close) but I just wanted to say my part. Maybe I am still a little fired up about losing one of my favorite ships, or it could also be the rediculous amount of caffine I had today because I had to get up at 4am for a server rodeo this morning at work. Either way.... Also, Hood, vassego (I think thats how they are spelled) work best on the class 7 slots on the slippy. They are the rouge class 7 fast shooters..... *sniffle The 6'ers will get blown off the first time you sneeze a little too loudly. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Heresy - 03-16-2009 I cant let that one go Varyag. I distinctly remember an encounter I had with your cruiser in my Eagle VHF, alone. In New Berlin, around the Sigma 13 hole. I actually did try to roleplay with you, trying to convince you that what I did was for the good of Sirius people, which is what my character believes. Since you were sitting behind your armour, you had none of it, and proceeded to screw me over. I didn't last very long, and retreated to Yanagi in due course. And you accuse us of being pure PvPers and nothing more? I really don't know what to say to that without being rude. Then again, I could be wrong and just don't remember an RP encounter and just feel emo today. Actually I do remember that encounter and you are right.... but we did banter about a bit before I opened up. I don't remember chasing you though. -edit- how long ago was that..... like 9 months or something Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Heresy - 03-16-2009 You didn't chase me after I jumped. I hope I didn't imply that you did. But anyway, thankyou for retracting what you said, at least partially. I was afraid that it would become like talking to a brick wall, something that's happening a lot lately on these forums. I'll refrain from voting in this poll for my own reasons though. I do believe that Virus has stated our respective position on the balance of our guns. I dont balance these things, but neither do I think that balance should be dictated by a popularity contest. Edit 9 months? I haven't been a Phantom for that long. I think it happened in October or November. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Varyag - 03-16-2009 And by saying that I wouldn't have it was actually that I didn't agree that you were good for humanity and said to defend my precious Rheinland I would remove you from it and just fired till you beat it. I didn't ignore the RP. We did go on for a bit about it. More then you are probly used to face to face with a capital. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Heresy - 03-16-2009 More banter than usual, certainly. Still, I was looking for a good long chat. Considering your reputation as the bastion for everything to do with Hessians outside of their factions, I thought I had a shot at getting it. Still though, we did converse much more than your average capital ship owner on that side of Sirius. Well, this is now diverging from the topic at hand, so I'll take my leave from the thread. I'd just like to leave with a word that people in general, from the posts that they've made about the Phantoms, need to look past a lot of their steriotypes. I know they seem true, but the context that these assumptions come from may not be correct. For example, if we are fighting a fleet of enemies, and more people come in expecting us to type while in combat, it isn't going to happen. Im sure that encounters with the Phantoms haven't been all bad. At the end of the day, the Phantoms are a roleplaying faction and members of the Phantoms are held to high standards to encourage this roleplay. If it's felt by people here that the Phantoms, or particular people within, are not doing our name justice, then please mention it to a high ranking Phantom, such as Fellow Hoodlum, Virus or Kane. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - BaconSoda - 03-16-2009 ' Wrote:It isn't just that, though. What you're arguing here is a logical fallacy called the slippery slope. Some factions have gotten ridiculously better equipment than their counterparts (The Sabre and Red Cat come to mind), and the rest of the mod has been kept relatively the same. The word precedent comes to mind, though, I don't understand why that word is used so much around here... But, then another question is why can't we give them something particularly special? Maybe we could give the Corsairs the Cheetah Thruster because they're better at making ships (And Tripoli has a news article relating ton engines, oddly enough)? Why not give the LSF better shields or something like that? Why not give the order more efficient Neutron Guns, or access to a better Torpedo, as was intended by the Supernova? Something like that wouldn't unbalance the server (I don't think, though I'm no balancer), and it would add flavor to the particular factions involved. Though, if we did do that, it does bring in the "why not" slippery slop fallacy you did present, at which point the reason for receiving such special privileges has to be explained. Whether or not it is worth the trouble is dependent on the developers, really... Superior Phantom ships/weapons - greasemunky - 03-16-2009 They already have amazing weaponry and fighters. What more do they need? Not to mention the whole "OH CRAP PHANTOMS RUN" thing. |
