Have you?

Didn't think so.

ITT: More pirates claiming that traders should act as if ship destruction matters when they themselves don't care.
Everyone should, not just traders, imho.

Even if I do its barely worth it because the angry trader tells lawful players in the next three systems to come and get me. I've got to see if I can find a trader that actually does something other than go oorp if I demand 11 mill.

I have had people I pirate ask me why I don't ask them for more - I have even on one occation run across a trader who kept insisting on paying me 5 million insted of the 3 million I asked for. And another time I let I guy go just paying 500.000 because I thought his cargo wasn't really worth much (mining materials - I never mined so I haven't got a clue, except that I know gold is worth a lot, no?) and he was in a 2K transport - he PM'ed me when he reached his destination, told me his cargo was worth 11 million and then sent me 2 million credits extra.

Being a "nice guy pirate" has its benefits, if of course the trader you run across is actually willing to enter conversation (and has a soul). If not there is no point in being nice.

Either everyone should or no one should.

Currently, pirates don't--so there's no reason why traders should.

"Nice guys" don't waste other people's time just for the sake of wasting their time.

Eh...Hielor still ranting about this.

Dude, look up what it is to be roleplay...ok?

What if your "escape pod" which never failed did fail.

Nothing is certain in real life....and using game mechanics to justify something that is supposed to be "in real life" is just silliness...

and madness...

and lulziness...

and wutness...

but I digress.

Carry on with the tomwuttery....

You do know that traders can do near 60 mil run? Also a pirate bomber is somewhat cheaper then transport (5-6 times cheaper?). Anyway the point is to make traders hire escort and get some fun.

Waste time? You are playing a game! Trading ore is not your job you have to do to earn real life money and buy food to survive. Actually for me it would be waste of time not to encounter pirate while trading.

There will be always people who don't but I won't let them spoil it for me. A universe where nobody can get hurt and nothing what happens matters doesn't appeal to me much.

' Wrote:Currently, pirates don't--so there's no reason why traders should.
See the above. (I'm not saying traders should always pay, they can blow up and pretend they don't want to, all at the same time)

Could have been a different pirate character of the same player.

Freelancer is not real life.

In Freelancer the planets hang statically in space and are joined by static trade lanes. This is obviously impossible in real life.

So why is it such a stretch to believe that lifeboat/escape pod technology is equally impossible?

I fail to see why the trader's ship being more expensive than the pirate's means that the trader should care about blowing up and the pirate shouldn't.

No, it's not my job, but it's still time that I'm spending. When I log on, it's often "I'll trade, and if I meet some nice RP on the way, great." If instead a big chunk of my time for that evening is spent with some lolwut pirate who's just out to waste my time and doesn't actually care about RP or pirating me, that's a problem.

Dude...you start your answer out with how freelancer is so "unreal", then bitch about not meeting people who roleplay?

Sounds like the immersion is lost on you from the get go anyways, so why even care about rp?
