There is, and if anyones ever managed to figure out how that thing works PM me, because nobody I've asked has a clue what it even does, let alone if it works.

From what I can see, there's been a marked reduction in people talking to each other since this change was introduced.

Most people had a standard "greetings" key set and used it quite often. Sometimes it led to a conversation, sometimes not. Cos a lot of people use free flight, nobody wants to take their hands off the keyboard, so less people are talking. I used to greet everyone I saw and usually got a response, but that seems to have stopped, now.

Cheers.

In the Outcast ranks, it's not affected anything really. The same conversations, greetings and friendliness is shared. Faction/area dependent, maybe.

While i did like using setmsg i don't think anything really changed after removing it,maybe just some will receive a response slower and those who will type faster will ask you to 'make it quick,i don't have all day' XD
pirates-they'll still type same thing,as in a few story they have written down somewhere for engaging in some locations
police-2,3 words before shooting won't really take more time then setmsg
traders-same 2-3 lines or silent running
bounty hunters-slow typing might give you an extra second to run..which i like Smile

so..not much of a difference for the major categorises in the game

instead of limiting it to group chat, how about if using setmessages depleted your gun power like cruise does?

This removal is aimed at the setmessage engagers - if they can't fire, they can't setmessage-engagabugging

That is a stupid idea, because that is the same as switching it off. Noone would be able to use them. Because proper use is in battle, calling targets and locations. You can't just open your map, see where you are and type. You will be dead if you do that.

I do not like this. I think that limiting it to 2 messages or doing it group only is much better than disabling it.

YES! I died that way before learnt how to setmsg, and god knows I can't type while moving my mouse to evade fire at the same time- to me its like that thing where you pat your head and rub your belly at the same time-I just can't do it.

Though I'm a bit sad to see them go, at least now, every time I'm engaged by a certain bunter, I won't get the SAME DANG MESSAGE. But still, I only ever used em for things such as when I am being escorted for group RP chatting, such as, "Jumping, stand clear" and, "Holding as ordered" followed up by an actual typed out question as to why I'm being told to hold. When I was newer to Disco, I would use the shiznits out of them, then i realized there was more depth to be had by simply typing on the fly. Still, I AM glad to see them go. This will help discourage certain gank groups from forming at least a little bit.

Why would you open up your navmap in combat anyways? If you do so, you deserve to get killed, it's a stupid thing to do.

RE: Admin Notice: Removing /setmsg Functionality - monmarfori - 04-30-2013

For example, if you are surrounded by 3 LN snubs and you are in a Werewolf, you don't have time to respond. If you try, you'll get killed easily because you're not evading. Admins can you restore it back but at the cost of 100,000 credits?
