I definitely get that vibe from these new ships, which I actually like. (I know it's never good to compare Freelancer to real life.) Look at Russian technology in the World War II era. Ugly as hell, but sure as hell did their job and did it well.
The only thing I really seem to not like about these ships is the cockpit. The orange first off seems to stand out like a sore thumb which isn't something I personally like. Maybe if it had a more matching color to the rest of the ship like a red, black, grey. But then again it that makes me hypocritical to what I said above. The second thing about the cockpit, would be all the what appears to be reinforcing bars. If you were the pilot it would seem pretty difficult to see out and fight efficiently in combat. If you maybe cut down a bit on the bars it would give less strain on the pilot.
Other then that I think it's what the people who fly these ships want. Just my opinions on the ships. Oh, and I can't wait till .86 to see the revised Typhoon. I'm sure it will share similar characteristics as the fighters.

Everyone facing them as enemies may prefer them, and I don't doubt it, yet as said before.
You don't have to like the new ones, you dont get to fly them it's those in the SCRA (Me included) that does, your opinion is invalid, especially since it's a matter of ignorance to the model itself.
Trust me, boot up a 3d program and load the old models and see the model for what it is.. ****..
