RE: PRISM: Let's drop Skype for Freelancer and move to something else. - ProfGiggles - 06-17-2013 I don't know. As much as I'd like to agree that privacy is important, I suppose that when all is said and done I really have nothing I would want to hide. Also it doesn't bother me in the slightest, if the American government knows that I'm gonna raid Bretonia tonight. RE: PRISM: Let's drop Skype for Freelancer and move to something else. - Strichev - 06-17-2013 Like they can't spy on xfire and steam. If they want to, they can pretty much do anything, so there is no point in abandoning skype. The only problem may be when the data is relayed to possible private buyers that can, if need be, use them to check future employees. Our space commie-corrupt-fund-embezzling characters may prove we're not a good choice for a worker... RE: PRISM: Let's drop Skype for Freelancer and move to something else. - Corrupt Police Inc - 06-17-2013 That would be unwise from their side, because the blackmailed person could turn to social media for help, directly or through a mediator. That would cause a very nasty reaction, which would hurt the parties involved. In other words, the situation you give is possible, but highly unlikely. RE: PRISM: Let's drop Skype for Freelancer and move to something else. - Syrus - 06-17-2013 While I appreciate the idea and all, and dislike Skype a lot as well as PRISM and what the states do... I live in Germany. We've been watched ever since a certain person came in charge, probably even longer. First by his people, then by the people who defeated him, now by the people who took over from that. Doesn't matter what you pick, Skype, Steam, xfire, IRC probably too ... hell, they'll always be able to watch you. Probably just because you use Windows even. But yeah, anyway, I'd love to get rid of Skype. But then there're so many people on there, you can't convince everyone to leave it. Even though it's crap and always was crap. The government or an individual acting on his or her own doesn't have to reveal themselves. They could blackmail you anonymously, at which point, you are the only victim. Anyways in the end of the day its up to people themselves. You don't wanna use skype then don't. Some people may join you and others may not. It is the collective action problem. RE: PRISM: Let's drop Skype for Freelancer and move to something else. - Stuffz - 06-17-2013 Privacy is a thing of the past. If you want to keep something private, keep it in your head. Or stop using the internet. RE: PRISM: Let's drop Skype for Freelancer and move to something else. - belarusich - 06-17-2013 Ah, US goverment is spying me via skype? Okay.
