Attacking Traders - marauder - 05-16-2006 Two things, First, Hoodlum is right, we don't need any more rules, just a little more co-operation from traders. Just because we can't disrupt you easily is no reason not to pay or drop a little cargo for the sake of the RP. Second, Bloodfrenzy is only in an osiris because it'd take weeks to get him liked by the lawful guys enough to be able to get him a dreadnought. Currently the only cap-ships I can buy with bloodfenzy are the osiris and the huegenot. If you've got a pirate rep your limited in terms of what ship you can get. As long as the (supposedly) neutral zoners still like you that choice increases to include both battlestars. Attacking Traders - Fellow Hoodlum - 05-16-2006 How silly of me, Thats why everyone has the Osiris. They literally, have no choice. I never considered that when I got mine, but you are right. I couldn't have got anything else .... Hoodlum  Attacking Traders - Alpha 429 - 05-16-2006 well it would be easy to enforce the no pirating in a BS rule by simply saying that a pirate char cannot buy a BS whether they are pirating or not, we could give the pirates with BS an amount of time to get rid of it and then after that if we see a pirate with a BS we should take a screenshot and report him. Now i know this sounds a bit unfair but pirating in a BS is unfair to traders now i know that trains can outrun a BS but all the pirate needs to do is wait at the JH the trader needs to go through and blast the train before it can get through. This would mainly be a problem in delta as the second route to NY involves flying through half of the edge systems and either Kusari or Rheinland (depending on what route you take) Now if they were in a cruiser then the train would stand a chance of getting by. terrorist can still be allowed to fly a BS but the 2 different kinds of ppl must be clearly marked because i dont want ppl pirating in a BS saying he is a terrorist. And i didnt realise that so many ppl are changing to an osirus like me. Attacking Traders - marauder - 05-16-2006 Actually a BS cannot just sit and wait at a JH for the trader. Firstly because the trains and other big ships disappear as they dock about 100 m from the JH itself. Secondly because by the time the trader is in range of the BS guns it'll be docking already and that would mean the BS pirate player is dock-raping. So BS's still do not get ANY advantages other then a few more turrets to shoot with. Plus most house faction traders seem to be neutral to the corsairs (mainly because they can land on yaren and don't get shot at) when the corsairs HATE all house factions. Which is strange to say the least. If traders want pirates and terrorist characters to show red on their HUD then they need the right rep. Attacking Traders - Alpha 429 - 05-16-2006 Yes house traders but some ppl like me consider themselves freeelance traders which technically means we can be neutral with who ever we like. If all PC traders were supposed to house traders then it would be too hard to trade in some places and if the route you want to take involves stopping at a pirate base then you wouldnt be able to do it so if you try to make all house traders wear a tag then any would become freelance. Also i see what you mean about the BS's so i guess it would be too unfair to ban pirates from using them. Attacking Traders - Ruth Baxter - 05-16-2006 First: It's fine that a pirate starts this topic and not a trader who got shot somehow... Second: I prefer being warned and having a choice, when meeting a pirate. Server-rule yes or no, the number of replies still shows, that a number of people think about it... So... thx Jack by the way - it makes no difference for me, what ship the pirate is in. it's roleplay... they might be rich or successful ? They can have every ship they want. (personal opinion...) greets Ruth Attacking Traders - Igiss - 05-16-2006 Quote:I don't, however, like the idea of traders only being allowed 5 mins at a base. Logically a trader wouldn't stick his nose out, if he knew people were waiting for him. Would be too dangerous. Doesn't make sense RP wise. You are all forgetting one *minor* detail - RP-wise transports and trains don't dock to stations, they moor, and pirate theoretically has an option to destroy the whole ship as it's in space. So in fact trader should pay to preserve his/her ship in this case. Of course, flyable ships in Freelancer cannot moor like NPC ships do. Still we should take that into account. And yes, I have to admit that no one actually follows faction-reputation rules... so house faction members are friendly with pirates, etc. I don't even see a way to improve the situation. Maybe introduce licenses like other mods have, I don't know. Returning to traders, I don't think that piracy in anything larger than a Gunboat should be allowed (with only exception of Huegenot, as it's a pirate cruiser). Why? well, basically it's stupid that pirates fly Rheinland battleships, for example, or Bretonian ones. I'm not sure of course so other opinions would be welcome. Attacking Traders - The Damned - 05-16-2006 Actually pirates (especially the most successful ones) from the golden era of piracy , have used even stolen galleons - so i don't see a reason for a pirate not to use a BS. On the other hand - in asteroid fieds a trader can very easily slip the BS. ANd usually pirates use fast , manuvarable and deadly ships - so maybe again its the middle class ships wich may offer the best for a pirate - crusers/ gunboats. But lets not forget the fighters - every1 has a choice. - Best chance of catching a trader is in a fighter , But the lack of firepower will take more than enough for the trader to survive / escape. Then again its personal choice. Pirates can use everything they hae earned - i think there isn't a big problem there - everything has its + and its - . Attacking Traders - Nightfall - 05-16-2006 I agree with The Damned, pirates were successful in stealing galleons in the days of old, why couldn't they do it now or in the future? After all the pirates (if successfull) have money, so it's logical that they can buy BS's if they need/want. Then, there's the maneuverability of the trader ships, IMO a trader can easily outrun a BS, even if it gets disrupted as all of them have thrusters - so, kill your engines and put the thruster to work, the BS doesn't have thrusters. One more thing is the warning - as courtesy and fair-play - yes, it should be given (and it's a server rule) but in reality, if you see a pirate, you should run. Attacking Traders - marauder - 05-16-2006 Yes pirates stole entire ships when they could (usually killing most of the crew and passengers while they were at it) but BS's are still execessive. It can't catch traders at all unless they stop, I know because I've tried it. Plus if you start out as a Pirate then why have you gotten / are using a HOUSE cap-ship. The only ways I can think of getting a house cap-ship when you started out as a pirate is either stealing it out of the shipyard before it's first flight. Which wouldn't happen as it'll be heavily guarded and you'd need an army of helpers in the shipyard itself which also wouldn't happen as the security checks would be too tight for more then five or six people to slip through, not several thousand. Or stealing the plans and / or the materials and building it yourself. Which is possible, but you'd need a shipyard and several years to build it. Currently the only shipyard in the border / edge worlds is tripoli. If you DON'T start out as a pirate then the captain going rogue and taking off with his ship would be best. This is more likely but you'd still need the support of most of the officers at least and it'd be best to have most of the crew with you too (its hard to tell several hundred angry crewers what to do when they're trying to kill you). They are the ONLY RP reasons I can think of at the moment, you'd need to write up an RP piece explaining how you got the ship too in order for it to be RP. Currently it seems that the faction relations is pointless as few, if any, players are actually doing it. This is suppose to be an RP server, yet very few people seem to be bothering with the RP at all. |
