RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - Hone - 08-25-2013 The two are not mutually exclusive. You can make a lot from piracy if you're good at it. Even if you're not good at it you can make a fair bit, though nothing compared to powermining/some of the other cash exploits. To all those saying you cant make money from pirating. lol. I've probly made around a billion from piracy, though since I dont need the money, the reason I do it is cos I find it the most fun activity. Your purpose is to find players and RP with them, unlike traders, and unlike police you're not trying to fight snubs, so its all good. Plus its always nice to keep a cash inflow. P.S: Yes it is funny! RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - Daedric - 08-25-2013 Ivan made a killing on his pirate. I made a tidy sum of money myself taking ore off his hands after he stole it from someone. RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - sindroms - 08-25-2013 And let us not forget Phate. RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - Bootsiuv - 08-25-2013 Don't play a pirate if your goal is to make money. It simply doesn't work that way. Pirating often costs money in the end, due to the aforementioned reluctant traders not caring if they die. The fact that your often ganked by every lawful within 4 systems also puts a small damper on your money makin' abilities. Just wait until your pirate character's name gets known. A few years ago, it got to the point where I wouldn't be logged on Ceridwen for 5 minutes before numerous LN and LNS managed to find me, and commence the pewpew. It's honestly why I stopped playing it as often. Getting ganked all the time sort of blows after a while, especially when your goal is to rp with some traders, and maybe blow up a few for ish and giggs. ![]() RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - sindroms - 08-25-2013 (08-25-2013, 10:06 PM)Bootsiuv Wrote: Don't play a pirate if your goal is to make money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmJZoOy6N9w That is exactly what I addressed in my last 15min of disco video. I mention how people sometimes say that piracy is boring and a poor source of income. Sure it is, when it is compared to more lucrative operations such as mining, but when done right, Piracy tends to be very intense, fun and quite an ego boost if you get away with it. Piracy is not just sitting at a lane and waiting for something to pop on the scanner. It is about moving around, checking for danger, tracking possible targets, tracking possible threats, making sure you stay as anonymous as possible while you do it. At some point in the video I actually mention how I am surprised people tend to say how ''well known'' their pirates are, because that is the direct opposite you want, when you pirate for the sake of money. RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - Bootsiuv - 08-25-2013 Yah, I agree it is a rush. ![]() I also had a few 100 mill days on Ceridwen but they were few and far between. The Gold Corridor from Dublin to Detroit was quite lucrative at times. Still, I don't think anyone should create a pirate char thinking that this is going to be the way they make all of the money in this game. It just doesn't pay enough at the end of the day, as you can make more money doing other activities, such as mining. Be a pirate for the rp, the fun, and that rush you get when you successfully rob someone or successfully escape a 5 snub gank squad. This is what I've found, but I probably have a few thousand server hours on pirate chars, so I think it's pretty accurate. RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - Bootsiuv - 08-25-2013 Why can't I see my last post. Am I going insane? EDIT: Hmmm...disco obviously doesn't want me to quote spazz. BTW, your character becomes well known, it isn't something that you try and do. It only takes a few encounters with LN before they are well aware of who you are. You could change your name, but that seemed stupid. Where's the thrill in that? RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - sindroms - 08-25-2013 Why would changing the name of your ship be stupid? If I encounter 6 traders and earn around 40mil off them, then using 2mil to make sure I do not get ganksquad'd the next time I log on to do it again seams pretty reasonable right? RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - Bootsiuv - 08-25-2013 I guess....if your pirating just to make money. I pirate for the thrill, of both catching and being caught. It is sort of nice to be known, as it were. Meant I had done enough damage for them to notice. But, it is a character that I am playing, and his ship is important to him. I don't think this particular character would fancy renaming the Ceridwen....it's part of the fabric that makes disco fun. I wanted to be a part of the story, for good or ill. Kind of hard to do that if your constantly changing your chars name i.e. starting over essentially with a new story. I dunno, it just rubbed me the wrong way. To each his own, though. RE: Pirate: Profitable or just Trader Torture? - Hone - 08-25-2013 Your both right. |
