This is more of a hypothesis rather than an experiment. Also, no, removing mines would not be good others have already explained why; not to mention RP wise the inability to construct or use mines (retcon or not) makes little sense. RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Walligig - 09-11-2013 I voted no. Using mines is a perfectly legit tactic. Anyways if the "average pvpers" feel they can no longer win with fighters then you might see an increase in capital ships. I guess the real question is which would you rather deal with? RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Pancakes - 09-11-2013 Mines are a valid tactic as any. Plus their usage DOES take skill, there are certain pvpers that enjoy killing their enemies with their own mines when they spam it. RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Enkidu - 09-11-2013 Right. I fly an arrow with nuclear mines and two class nine anti-shield missiles (forgot the names). With this layout I can effectively counter VHFs and bombers if I score enough successive hits and don't become instantly become a flaming mound of astro-paper due to hitting a rock or something. You go remove the mineslot and that, along with all other light fighters (and some VHF's) become crippled for anything other than the scout-and-CD role.
It's a good thing I only Rp using that ship and actually haven't needed to pvp with it in the entire 7 months I've had it for. But at least I'm secure that if somebody does blind engage me, I can hold my own and maybe kill the other guy so I can come back and and finish my Rp without having to race around the system dodging for half an hour. If we removed the mineslot I'd have to find another means of doing that. Just sayin'. RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Hone - 09-11-2013 I disagree, bomberswarm lets av peeps take out good caps, a GB can mess up fighters even if their pilots are better, and theres always piracy! Voted no, cos mine shouldn't be removed anyway. RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Enkidu - 09-11-2013 Agreed with Hone on this one. ^
Edit: Removing them would also seriously hinder teamplay. And I mean seriously. All it would do would be to make VHF's even more in-combat OP when compared with lower-weight fighter classes, which wouldn't do much except for screw up the balance. And I don't even PVP and I'm saying that. RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Papa Oomaumau - 09-11-2013 No. Didn't even have to think for a second. (09-11-2013, 04:57 PM)Soul Reaper Wrote: ...So all real combat would be left to those that are good at the other (real) aspects of fighter combat... Combat Vet says "Huh?" All forms and manners of combat are real. Bouncing someone off a solar atmosphere is 'real', dragging someone into range of a hostile base is 'real'... ...I could go on for days. If you can't account for, and at least try to counter, a certain combat style, I'd say it might be you that's lacking mad skillz. Combat's Raison d'ĂȘtre is to kill someone. It's not supposed to be pretty, or honorable - try fencing if that's what you're looking for, or chess. Also, and I think, far more importantly; Unlike a platform game, people's ability to PvP here is determined as much, if not more so, by hardware factors as skill. those hard factors are, among others; Computer Hardware Graphics Card Modem Speed ISP Connection Speed Wireless Delay etc. People who have all of these issues, compounded on top of each other, can still play here because of missiles and mines etc. I sure wouldn't play here if the place was packed with 'Pros' with top-notch gaming rigs roflpwning everyone else. It's bad enough now! There's no way in hell anyone here can say, without fail, that they are 'better' than someone else, because there's no nullifying equalizer to the above issues - like you'd have in a Console System. So, without delving further into this... NO. RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Highland Laddie - 09-11-2013 removing nuke mines...maybe. Not all mines. Need a third voting option... RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - t0l - 09-11-2013 do this, and every lolberty character will be a liberator. EDIT: decided yes. RE: Social Experiment: Removing Mines - Soul Reaper - 09-11-2013 (09-11-2013, 07:55 PM)Papa Oomaumau Wrote: No. While that doesn't have anything to do with the whole topic, it's funny because the thing is, if your computer is too bad to limit your ability to play -freelancer-, then I suggest you stop using an ancient laptop. Which deletes the factors of most hardware including CPU, GPU and/or RAM. -Any- issue would be related directly to connection, which obviously plays a factor in PvP, however we're talking about the majority of people, who have decent connections to be able to play on disco without any real problems. And remember guys, this is not about PvP balance, don't connect "removing mines" to PvP balance, that wasn't the reason I made the thread. Removing mines would obviously have a negative effect to all PvP because it's a part of PvP anyway. I'm talking about a hypothetical scenario where mines simply would stop existing. |
