RE: Old Freelancer IDs - kikatsu - 10-19-2013

As much as I would like them back, it is really unreasonable at this time. So much code and other stuff is attached to the IDs now that having so many versions of basically the same kind of ID is just a lot more unnecessary work for the devs

RE: Old Freelancer IDs - NOVA-5 - 10-19-2013

I think it's to do with the game mechanics Anomander, like the miner ID
gives you the tools to mine the minerals & IFF shows who you're freinds
with in Sirius, if they changed that ID to freelancer; all freelancers could mine
just as well.
But some say they don't look at your ID yet a Pirate ID will lock you out of
house lawful/enemy bases by the mechanics put on the ID, those restrictions
are taken as read by the bases, ie: reports being forwarded to said bases by
the authorities. Remember when you were put on probation by the liberty
authorities for your trading antics? and had to sell half a tonne of icecream
to be able to regain your freedom? if you hadn't done that you'd been FR5'd
& made hostile on your trader, cause there wasn't anything forced on that ID.
There's a lot of pro's/cons for the mod lads to deal with & i bet a few headaches
with balance, so i think it's for that reason they pile them all on the same ID?
what game mechanics would or could go on the likes of the Smuggler/Trader/
Slaver ID's? i'm not sure.
But not all restrictions are put on the ID's, there's some on the IFF's aswel,
like the Junker one with Ageira, they don't wan't Junkers in any form on their
bases, eg: make yourself hostile to Ageira with a junker ID then go try fix it
by missions/shooting Xenos, you can't, it won't drop down toneutral as they
had the IFF fixed!

It used to be that your ID & IFF had to match as close as possible! ha, tell
that to some pirates out there, who knows who they're with, one repdrop
will clear them of getting your friend to keep them out of their bases for you too.

I'm with you though, i liked going down the chippy for a fish paper without being
hassled by some 6ft 240lbs brickhouse looking for some sport in my Civilian.
