RE: The Engine plugin will become usless at this rate. - Trogdor - 12-16-2013 I think it has something to do with the engine entry defining the size of the engine effect so that it looks right on the ship. I think what they may have done is standardized them amongst snubs and freighters, so that they're completely interchangable. With caps tho, there are vast differences in the sizes engine effects need to be. So maybe they decided to go with this system in preparation for caps... perhaps because they can't get the pimpship plugin to detect what ship you're using and apply the correct engine? Or maybe they just wanted engine choice to be an in-RP item. Idk. RE: The Engine plugin will become usless at this rate. - Lonely_Ghost - 12-16-2013 I like what Himadari says. RE: The Engine plugin will become usless at this rate. - Kazinsal - 12-17-2013 Considering how much is done that doesn't get into the mod, the fact this has even been implemented once slightly defies "waste of time". Something that gets in for a bit is less of a waste of time than something that doesn't get in at all. RE: The Engine plugin will become usless at this rate. - Highland Laddie - 12-17-2013 I can see where making someone fly all over Sirius in order to try out different engines may be beneficial over making it a simple Pimpship option in that it promotes actual in-game investment in terms of travel, encounters, chances for RP, etc. This is same reason you can't just buy every gun you want at every base. This helps prevent the "yay...I tried out every engine I could possibly try in like 2 minutes now I'm done" mentality and promotes....."Discovery." Who said anything about engines and ID-based techcompat? Engines are not planned to become "faction property", so to say, or effect the powercore like guns do. Worst comes to worst, they'll just be added to the ship-based techcompat to avoid outright ooRP combos while allowing everything else at 100%.
RE: The Engine plugin will become usless at this rate. - Syrus - 12-18-2013 No! Nonono! I like my GRN Engine Nyx with IMG ID! Well, I'd definatly be for more (nice) engines, but it's not high up on the priority list. More like "would be neat, but that's it". Very nice to have them changeable now. I hope at least transport engines will also become changeable in the soon to-become-present future. But as I said, whatever else needs to be done and can be done by the person who would otherwise be working on this should be done first. But I think we'd also need a decent variety of no-technerf no-attributes civilian and BW engines for purely cosmetic purpouses. |
