RE: Disco = Broken... - Ash - 03-23-2014 I'm inclined to agree with E.T. and croft somewhat, but then I empathise with sindroms and others as well. When I log onto Discovery i'm hit by two feelings, one is of wonder and awe that the development team have been able to expand the parameters of the game to an unbelievable extent, and sadness that the Freelancer universe has evolved into a state that's barely recognisable. In late 4.85 the tampering of the development team began to reformulate the foundations of the game and the story and since then the universe has become more and more warped. The game was about trying new things and discovering different aspects of the game. The difference to today was that not everything was to the taste of everyone. For example hardly anyone mined in those days because it was slow and mainly RP based but that tasted just right to a slight few of us who had the patience to do it. If you ask me Discovery has become less and less specific and has traded off much of it's variety and contrast for balancing purposes. But the worst tragedy of all is that since 4.85 everything has become about numbers. Cargo holds, power plants, energy usages and cruise speeds; not to mention profit margins. What happened to the days when we got so psyched about a ship that looked so darn cool that we would do whatever it took to get it? To hell with numbers. It could have been as brittle as a quails egg but we would fly it anyway cos it was part of the satisfaction of the game. Everything these days rides on numbers and it makes the game and the community a lot colder than it used to be. I say bring back the soul of the game and if you want to join a minor faction, be prepared to have minor perks, but in place of what perks you don't you have character and a right to say you love it. Good for them, let's try to get same or similar toys for ourselves. Disco's ridiculous inflation in a nutshell. RE: Disco = Broken... - E.T. - 03-24-2014 Well sadly its true, its a shooter.. One where people "TRY" to get some RP. Maybe some are too serious about lore or factions to RP. Guess in the end disco is a mixture just of it all, with as end goal just to satisfy or pleasure the player playing the game. When he can defend himself in a battle transport or make dog fights as Haste was doing everyday. (He might be doing that still) ASH i have to agree with you on the 4.85, i never played that one.. I started from 4.86, but it was all that everyone wanted to have more then someone else. Bigger and better, hope people will realize that in the end it must be fun for everyone. I guess people are not satisfied with the things they have. But that is something else.. Im glad that I am not the only one thinking like this, even answers came from unexpected corners.. |
