i agree the Jump should use lots of power thus powering down shields and weapons it would prevent oorp and Abuse alot

I think this idea is win.

I also think the fact that anyone who says, 'lol, lets jump into z21, behind the navy's back!111', would die to the mines if they mistimes it. which they will.

You would actually need some knowledge of the system you are jumping into to know the distances from the centre etc. Factions would probably create records for their pilots to use, distances to landmarks etc. Would require a bit of work to use properly. God help you if you were to mix up your X and Y co-ordinates, 100k+ downwards?

I think this is what i like most about the idea - the need for fresh navigational skills and the real potential that it could alll go horribly wrong. I'd really enjoy this addition.

I'm sorry so ask an idiot question but if you try to jump to a location that has a structure, then how big would this structure need to be before it does damage (perhaps fatal damage) to your ship?? I'm thinking planets, space stations, other space ships, asteroids, mineable floating chunks, that one unit of oxygen you can't be bothered to tractor up?

Jump Engine - Linkus - 08-27-2008

Couldn't tell you I'm afraid. All I know is that it's a bad idea to jump into the sun. I can't exactly test it all out again since I do not have FLHook or a working server (Vista can be a pain).

I like this idea, gives the oportunity for some wickedly looking suicides:P( not JUST for that of course , but was the first thing to come to my mind for some reason...:P)

I'm all for it, but limit it for battleships only. Or perhaps ships with battleship liscence...

Stats can be discussed.. perhaps draining 6M power... costing you about 5M credits, would also help it from being whored... having RP cargo for the job might help aswell, some kind of smart restrictions would be in order... Oh yes Order has this tech for years...

Not even limiting it to Battleships, JUST carriers, like was originally proposed. Cruisers Battlecruisers, and even Battleships, no no and no. The only "battleship" I can see using this tech would be the Juggernaught and maybe the BattleStar Advanced (needs to be advanced at something). There's a reason that jumpgates are monstrous things, creating a wormhole effect takes no small amount of energy.

Does this mean that everyone now goes rushing to design a Carrier for every bleedin' faction out there, it's not necessary.

The way I see it, Liberty (with the Valhalla vault), Corsairs and Outcasts would have the "warp" technology. Corsairs and Outcasts because there are only jumpholes to those systems, and it would behoove them to create something like this warp tech sooner.

That being said, the energy requirements would be huge, requiring a dump of the whole energy core to charge and engage the engines. But draining the shields is a bit much, and leaves the ship pretty defenseless all-things-considered. It can't fire it's guns anyway, why make it pretty much a floating target?

Another problem is what happens when a body gets ahold of these and uses it as a cargo-vessel? Grab 2500 of whatever, jump directly to the planet, sell, repeat. what would the "cooldown" time be?

This being done to carriers would also lead to dockable ships. An Outcast Carrier pops up in NY and disgorges a dozen Sabers and Falcatas...bedlam ensues. The RP opportunities are nice, but so is the penchant for abuse (around here? NO!)

$.02

Yes indeed dear sirs, this new variant of the Jump Engine runs on credits! Yes indeed, credits.

I personally think you would have to buy ''Jump Engine Ammo'' to use it. One shot would be about 10 million to kill off any attempts to use this system commercially.

Jump Engine - dr lameos - 08-27-2008

Ridiculously expensive jump engine fuel?

Wouldn't work...
cargo doesn't and can't effect the ship - thats why H-fuel isn't necessary.
