New givecash/banking user commands - mwerte - 09-28-2008 Yeah, I'm still keeping mine disabled. Maybe something like: Actually I think this would be more like a "hacker" breaking into a bank electronically and transferring the funds to his own account. Rather than punish them with rules ... make it the owner of the account's responsibility to secure their access code. If they slip and provide this code to someone and the wrong person gains access to this code ... its not the hacker's fault the money got taken but the owner of the accounts fault for not securing his access code. Thus role play is intact and no need for rules to be added. Point here ... keep your access code private and make the access code something more complex than your character's name. Same holds true for bank/armory characters. If these are faction community ships where you can have multiple faction members deposit and withdraw from a common bank character ... make sure your faction controls the access codes. If you happen to post the code in the forums or accidentally transmit via open comm lines ... that's your fault ... not mine. Keep your code secure and take responsibility for your actions. It can be pretty much any password you want, as in letters, numbers, and some special characters. And the password(as in size doesnt have much of a limit, just as long as you can fit it in the typing box Just keep in mind that spaces in your password will probably not work. Space bar usually tells the program to expect a new field. Example 1: /setcashcode password = good Example 2: /setcashcode pass word = bad Result of example 1: /drawcash mycharacter password = successful withdrawal Result of example 2: /drawcash mycharacter pass word = unsuccessful withdrawal and your password being broadcast in the open (password = pass) New givecash/banking user commands - mwerte - 09-28-2008 ' Wrote:make it the owner of the account's responsibility to secure their access code. It's your fault for not securing that number. Sound good? New givecash/banking user commands - Baltar - 09-28-2008 ' Wrote:Ok, I'm going to steal your credit card and spend more money then you have. It's your fault for not securing that number. Sound good? Its called role play for a reason. No need to bring server rules into this. If you can role play identity theft then why not. What's the best way to avoid this? Don't use the command. Second best way to avoid this ... secure your valuables by placing strong security on your codes. Now ... if someone "truly" hacks the Disco server to retrieve your data ... this is already covered in the rules and will result in permabans. My point is within the game itself ... don't post your code ... keep it to yourself and make it a strong passcode ... not your mom's name. Its not that difficult to figure out ... and its still YOUR responsibility to ensure you keep it safe. If you report your car stolen to the police and you tell them you left the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked, your insurance company will likely say "you're outa luck bud ... your insurance won't cover your stupidity." Well ... they'd be a bit more polite ... but you'd still hear laughing in the background. New givecash/banking user commands - Dopamino - 09-28-2008 Um, if something gets stolen from you that's not what's going to happen. Though you may be at fault for making it easier for the thief to steal from you, they're still the ones who stole and they still deserve to be punished. Yes ... the thief (when caught) will face imprisonment ... and the victim who left the keys in his car will get his car back. But the victim will not get anything more than his car back. You don't reward someone for being stupid enough to leave the keys in his car. If the car is damaged while the car was in the possession of the thief, its between you and the insurance company to determine whether your car is repaired or you receive any form of compensation. It is NOT the law's job to compensate you for losses. Bottom line ... you get something stolen from you ... call your insurance company / credit card company. The only thing the law can do is arrest the guy that stole your stuff. Now ... for role play purposes ... you get your stuff stolen, call the LPI if it occurred in Liberty. Let the LPI place him on their most wanted list and deal with him. You want your money back ... call the insurance company (plead with the admins or whatever). But don't go creating some OORP server rule because you are not smart enough to protect your assets. Lets try role playing these things instead of rule playing shall we? New givecash/banking user commands - Dopamino - 09-28-2008 If someone steals money from your bank account, it's going to be an OORP action. LPI, BPA etc. will have nothing at all to do with it because it's not RP. If someone misuses one of your accounts and scraps your battleship, the admins aren't going to tell you "Hey, it's RP. You got screwed, tough cookies." Any admin action is going to be OORP. If you want to roleplay getting screwed in real life (OORP), be my guest. Don't make the rest of us do it though. New givecash/banking user commands - SanjitVignesh - 09-28-2008 My opinion about this is to to remove those when 4.85 comes out. New givecash/banking user commands - Etaphreven - 09-28-2008 I must've missed something. Who's Cannon again? ^^ Thanks. ~Maik (+alcohol) |
