Should RFP follow LPI in terms of ship use? - Tenacity - 10-01-2008 But SHF's are fun to fly, even if they suck =P they can do pretty decent against the less powerful gunboats and cruisers. I could easily take out a huntress cruiser with a Spatial, but I suppose that's a bit of a setup fight anyhow... They're also decent if you dont plan on pvp'ing much, they can fare just fine against NPC fighters and capships. IMG spatial is a good choice if you're going to be a zoner or other explorer-type in the borderworlds where nomads and wild are present. Should RFP follow LPI in terms of ship use? - Lupusy - 10-01-2008 i would support a swat heavy weapons devision for the police force something like in anime the PATLABOR or Appleseed police diision which used heavy weapons. then police players can switch to heavier bomber craft when the enemy turns up on heavier ships too. Should RFP follow LPI in terms of ship use? - jpo - 10-01-2008 police IRL use tanks, I cant imagine that bombers would be a stretch if thats what youre going for. Also consider this, if the outlaws are using X and B counters X, the police get B as sson (or sooner) as one dies from X. Shotguns at one point were not utilized by police, now they are standard issue. Soame with armor. It seems that most people in the poll feel that players of rank should have their own bomber (at least that is what I think you meant as I wasn't particularly explicit in the poll) over shared accounts. However, I am strongly inclined to restrict the number of bombers available at all times. The most I would want to see is two bombers at a time. To control this I think using two shared accounts would be sufficient. Access would be limited to some rank I haven't decided yet, patrolman or something higher. I just don't want to see my guys respond to a gunboat or cruiser with a swarm of bombers. Any reason why I should let pilots of proper rank all have bombers? Should RFP follow LPI in terms of ship use? - Jinx - 10-01-2008 from an outsiders point of view - i d try not to limit players much on what they use... but ask them what they want to use. - if they all say, they want a bomber, another solution might be needed ( an assault by light fighters maybe - that rips them all apart ) a "healthy" balance from like 2/3 Phantoms and 1/3 bombers might be best. - the upcoming SHF is an alternative, but functions in a different way. its meant to be a long range patrol ship - not a quick response fighter class bomber. so the SHF is meant to operate independly along the borders. its main function is to spot weaknesses, deal with minor threats and .. maintain the borders intact. - a bomber however is more ( or should be more ) a unit that scrambles when there is need for it ( like a capital ship - or a hardened transport ) there should be more fighters than bombers - but of course, the bomber as such is more powerful than most fighters. - the rheinland bomber is especially powerful, cause it has a large powercore and is one of the smallest bombers around. so - if possible, i d try to really keep a 1 : 3 balance, might work to give the players a choice to either fly a fighter OR a bomber, but not both. - as a roleplayed char, i d expect a bomber to need a different training form a light fighter... so it would be funny if the same pilots piloted both. - and for the player, there is a real decision to make - does he want to be a bomberpilot for the faction or a fighterpilot ... but not both. As you may assume correctly, it is not very likely to get approved since the standards to fulfill are high and the applicants numerous. So I suggest that you limited it to a high rank and MAYBE introduce a "PvP" Test for RP reasons. I also recommend to disallow the RM to scan for contraband commodities, while still allowing them to watch out for nomad stuff. Edit: and as soon as an enemy bomber (-> SN) gets involved, your SHF lies in shreds. So just forget about that one. I'd rather fly a LF or Bomber than a SHF when it comes to police work. Bomber pilots fail epically to miss a SHF with their SNs. Should RFP follow LPI in terms of ship use? - Stoat - 10-01-2008 No reason at all. Restricting usage using shared accounts is a damn fine idea. Should RFP follow LPI in terms of ship use? - tfmachad - 10-01-2008 I would vote no to bombers if there was enough room in the other questions to follow suit. The SHF would be a nice addition to the RFP as it could be considered a storm unit, much like a squad car. If we are to succesfully co-exist in Rheinland we need to distinguish ourselves through our operations, otherwise the roles of the police and the military will overlap and both factions will suffer from lack of identity. The RFP will become a sort of "junior RM" as it has happened in the past. When the RFP was more active, we ended up in the same groups, doing the same things, with RFP officers answering to the RM. That is not good. If the RFP demonstrate itself more present, there's room for the RM to reduce the scope of its RP in order for the two factions to co-exist with their own individual RPs. I consider that while the RM would be more concerned with the bigger threats, the RFP would function as civilian control. As civilian that would mean transit and transport (traders and smugglers) and two of the four unlawful factions that exist in Rheinland (the LWB and the Bundschuh). Those guys are much more of civilian types and should be dealt with by the police. The Unioners and Red Hessians are more aggressive and larger, not to mention their zone of influence is broader, including territories that aren't part of Rheinland (falling out of the immediate jurisdiction of the police and caracterizing border defense), these would be dealt by the military. If the RFP demonstrates itself as more active, perhaps these groups could dedicate themselves to antagonize it. Right now, my RM character largely ignores the two, unless they are actively engaged in disregarding the law, while he's much more wary of the later two. The Main reason I dont think the LPI should get bombers is because the threats they will mostly be dealing with are small. However, having a sharred account with a single bomber for emergency use makes perfect sense. The RM and the RPF need to work together and understand eachothers goals before the RPF should get bombers. Verg |
