Mk2 Freighters - cal823 - 11-06-2008 How about a well armed freighter, instead of being called a "combat personel carrier" call them "Combat Support Freighters" which can mean alot of things. They can be used like merchentmen (an innocent looking convoy ship which is armed to the teeth to surprise pirates) also as support ships in combat ops, as more survivable traders, etc. I would love to see a combat rhino (elephant?) flying in in support of defenders in combat, with catapult missiles firing away. give them the ability to carry more missiles in the cargo hold than other ships, enabling them to effectivly use dual missile launchers (could load em out with missile launchers for the 2 or 3 gun slots freighters usually have, and turrets for the rest) Probably should exclude the Rheinlanders from combat freighters as the hulk is incredibly slow, to the point of being outmaneuvered by gunboats lols. Other combat freighters could be Charger or warhorse (clydesdale), Hornet (Drone) Bedouin (dromedary) (probably one of the bigger meaner ones, useful for smuggling) I agree with the idea of maybe a single gunboat class weapon on the freighters as a kind of forward gun, kinda like the cruiser/gunboat forward gun of the freighter world. Also a minelayer class of freighter could be made, with the ability to mount dual or triple/quadruple mine launchers (much like a bombers dual torps). This could also fit in well with bretonias recent minelaying tactics against kusari, and would enable a squadron to have a mini minefield behind them to cover their asses in a big fight. Mk2 Freighters - SGTMatt - 11-07-2008 I had the idea for a aux cruiser by tanking a contrans in 4.83 but they took the cd off of it and ruined my plans..... too bad really. |
