Look I get needing money and not wanting to pay. I always personally pay pirates if they can catch me, but they do have to earn it as I am fairly good at getting away.
But hell, if your cargo isn't worth the cost - at least find a way to RP having him just kill you. Make up some story about how "THIS IS THE LAST DAMN TIME I GET ROBBED, MY CHILDREN ARE STARVING!!" and go postal or something. Anything can be RP'd.

I don't see the RP in running 90% of the time. Sure, you may RP an old accomplished convoy captain who knows when to run and when to fight back, but most freighter/transport captains aren't going to put their lives on the line. Think about it, if someone came up to mug you on the street, would you give him your wallet, or RUN AWAYYY!!!

Sorry, I'd run in real life too. Especially if he comes at me with a knife. Now a gun, that's another problem. However, seeing as how I live in Texas I'd like to see the retard mugger who comes at me with a knife.

Sorry to go off topic but I have to tell this story, happened at a major mall here in Houston when all the Katrina refugees were here. And I didn't hear this on the news, I was there. A couple of boys from Louisiana (I knew the HPD officer that arrested them and he told me they were from LA) were in the mall and tried to rob a couple people with a knife. Now this was a pretty fancy mall, nice place. Both people they tried to rob, one was a customer in the hallway the other was a kiosk owner, looked at the boys and ignored them. The customer just walked away calmly, the store owner laughed and called security. Unless you are carrying a gun, don't even bother here.

If the cargo shipment is worth less than the pirate wants to tax you, then I would say bite me and they'd kill me, and id powertrade it back.
most want 2-3 million, i would think...
Besides, thats what battleship escorts are for, no muss no fuss.
An AFA taxed my trader, even though i wasnt carrying food like his IFF says they dont like.
Whatever, I make over 291 million that night, and im fine:).
Traders WILL ALWAYS make more money trading than pirates will pirating.

You know, I was the one who pirated you, and I have to say that your RP was less than nice. I do swear, the next time someone says that the FA only cares about food, they better be ready for getting an incremental tax increase (I know how much a cargoload of diamonds and niobium cost, don't you worry). The FA are more than just farmers, that is just the title from their start. If you want to know what else we do, you can pm me, because I am tired of explaining it in public with no result. Just know, if you don't care about the full extent of it, that we do have goals outside food, and we are more than farmers.....
