Activating cruise drops shields? - Ark - 11-11-2008 In a perfect world, everyone obeys the rules. We don't live in a perfect world. You can play by the rules all you like but there will always be someone who doesn't. It doesn't hurt to give those kind of people a nudge in the right direction, in my opinion. I think the power twist could be useful both for discouraging re-engaging, and cruising to catch up. In the event of a chase, neither party is advantaged. Sounds good to me... Activating cruise drops shields? - Skysurfer - 11-11-2008 The problem I see with the shield/shield battery loss as the cruise engine charges is that... Well... You use cruise a lot normally, any way. Cruise costing money is like warp damaging a ship - it discourages use of it, which means people will eventually have to engine-kill thrust their way to destinations. However, if it is possible to make it so one cannot turn, only strafe, in cruise, it will discourage combat-cruising more efficiently, in my opinion. Activating cruise drops shields? - Camtheman Of Freelancer4Ever - 11-12-2008 thats just a stupid idea, really, its just that blunt. Its DUMB. you know those big ships that crash into asteroids constantly? would be like this *Ping Ping Ping* BOOMM Activating cruise drops shields? - Seth Karlo - 11-12-2008 Yes, cruise takes up energy. I had this problem with the barge when I coded it, making the engines require so much energy that it drained the powercore and slowed the charge down to about 5 minutes (Then someone CD'd me... I was in a VERY bad mood) Most cruise engines are set to a tiny amount though becuase it's not needed... we can edit that amount easy. No idea is dumb or stupid, simply misguided or misinformed. Activating cruise drops shields? - Skoorb - 11-13-2008 Yeah, i thought about the bouncing issue for large and small ships in ast fields. Personally i thought in the end, isn't that more realistic, large ships would and possibly should actualy have trouble cruising in ast fields. Of course this could interfere with the fun factor of the game. Note i mentioned the idea has its problems. This was my major problem with the idea. If the shields started recharging before the end of the cruise charge up, you would at least get the first bounce without hull damage. I personally still think it would be worth it. Activating cruise drops shields? - Orin - 11-13-2008 I'm all for making a higher energy drain, though it might be more work than it's worth. A specifically coded drain for each cruise engagement on each ship's powercore... Oy vey. Might discourage shield running, though. Activating cruise drops shields? - X-Lancer - 11-13-2008 In Omicron Minor flying in a Fighter......Cruiser engine activate..shield drop...Nomads incoming!..pew pew pew..boom...Player XXX has been killed by hostile vessels.. Activating cruise drops shields? - crocodile - 11-14-2008 This is a good one: Engage your cruise engines to catch up, your weapon's energy starts to drain. Whey you catch your prey, you can't fire right away, you have to recharge. We may also put the string flag for missiles to the parameter (just fired), that' means that you can't fire them until next cycle time. I like it. Activating cruise drops shields? - Elvin - 11-18-2008 Really, thats not good idea, it would just mean that every seconf time you engage cruise, you will die.... Especially anything bigger. Because someone cant follow the rules... Then just make it ... bannable offense that will make people think about it... |
