RE: A Gateway to Hope - The Sovereign - 03-11-2017

Barrier Gate Station, Coronado, Independent Worlds.

Nick smiles at the captain and his companion, then reading the transmission that Sarah had just sent, begins to laugh. "Well Malcolm, looks like we were both trying to show off. I wonder however, who has more people in place?" With that he presses a button on his own datapad, and returning his attention to the table begins speaking. "The offer is, quite a simple one I believe, and suited specifically to a man of your talents and resourcefulness, which you have just confirmed with your countermoves in our little game. We," Nick indicates himself and Elena, "would like to include you among the ranks of the Forlorn Hope." Nick smiles, "Of course, I would understand that perhaps you wish to remain... independent... to continue the work you do. However, if that is the case, maybe an affiliation, or contract, would be better suited to your needs? In short, the Forlorn Hope has need of someone with your skills and knowledge, and we're willing to work out how to make it happen." Nick stretches slightly, as he grins at Malcolm. "Of course, this isnt a mere job interview is it? Is there anything I forgot to mention Elena?" Nick asks, turning slightly to look at her.

Near the Equanimity. Coronado System, Independent Worlds.

Azreal sits listening to music as he waits for either of the two signals needed. Allowing himself to momentarily get lost in his memories, he smiles as he remembers the job offer. It had been during the Hauling job when he had mentioned an interest in working with the Forlorn more, and when just a few days ago, Nick had contacted him with "The easiest million you'll ever make" Azreal knew this was his chance. Leaping at the oppurtunity, he found himself parked in his gunboat just a few dozen meters from the Equanimity. Admiring the ship, a serenity like his own, he almost missed seeing the datapad blink green for a moment and took action, moving the condor gunship into position behind the Equanimity, and sending a comm to Sarah, telling her to wave for the camera. Carefully ensuring his weapons remained powered down, as the green light means everything is going as planned, Azreal settles in to wait, knowing that unless everything suddenly goes wrong, his remaining job here is to sit pretty and wait for payment.

Aboard the Equanimity IV

Mina: "Actually, I was already on the ship when I got that transmission. I think luck just decided to be on our side this time around. I believe it's only fair that we were all prepared; we don't know each other after all. Being cautious is not a bad thing," smelling the hot cup of tea in her hands, "is it? Oh, and you can keep your gun, Sarah. We don't plan on making anymore threats around here, right Jim? And we hope you don't either."
Jim: "Of course not. She held her part of the deal, too. Money's in my account, heh. She fell for the good ol' "bribe me" trick. The captain's not the only one striking deals around here. Speaking of which, thanks Sarah."
Mina: "Well, sorry Sarah, but he did outplay you there." she chuckles. "Regarding your offer, I think we should leave it to the ones in charge to decide. I'm sure they're already establishing the details of a deal that will make all of us happy."

With that said, what would happen next was not in their hands anymore. The three relaxed with tea, whiskey and a good amount of talking.

A Slimy Situation III

Malcolm: "Before Elena chips in with her invaluable insight into your memory, I gotta say, Nick. Show off is my middle name - but apparently we're family," he laughs. "I kept wondering how many plot twists we still had up our sleeves. However, I expected no less from a potential employer. I mean, I hoped for less, so I can just steal your money, but, you know... Anyway, you are correct about us not wanting to join your ranks officially. Had enough of it in the Navy, personally. Contracts, though? I'm all over it like butter on bread! I'm sensing you need me for more than one job though, so shall we talk about a partnership instead?

Barrier Gate Station, Coronado, Independent Worlds.

Elena had already leaned back, crossing her arms, as she thought this would become male-only business again. Sipping at her Ale, she had just looked on the table, listening to Nick and Malcolm talking about their stuff. Hence, she was rather surprised when he asked her about anything missing.

She cleared her throat. "Well, I guess there's not much left to say. Except that we'd be happy to work with you more regularly. You know, you're good company and all, something you don't see very often." She smirked slightly. "And you're also not the dumbest one. Even if you don't wanna join us, I'm sure you'll be of great value for us, especially in some sort of partnership, as you suggested.

It's true, we might need you and your crew for more than just one job. You know, we've got plans on some bigger projects, and they are currently running at full speed. Still, we could need somebody whose primary job are deliveries. Won't be anything illegal - unless Nick here has other plans I don't know of - just some materials needed for repairs 'n stuff, nothing too special actually."

Taking another sip from her glass, while thinking about what to say next, she went on, smiling at both Nick and Haynes. "And yeah, it's true. You two - you're the biggest show-offs I've met since years. Nothing compared to my ex though ... uhm ... nevermind, eh, forget what I just said." Giggling to herself, Elena downed the Ale, waiting for a response.

At this Nick leans forward, extending his datapad to Malcolm, as he begins to speak,"While I am disappointed that you will not be joining us directly, it is not unexpected and with Elena's vote on the matter, I believe we can move forward into a partnership together. This of course means that you will be indirectly affiliated with us and as such will enjoy all the benefits any other member of the Forlorn Hope would, save for two. You would not be able to vote on matters concerning the Forlorn Hope, even if they directly involve you and you will find that certain sectors of our operations are off limits to you, such as the shared ships fleet. Barring these two minor issues, I would be glad to draft up an agreement specifying exactly what the terms of our partnership are if you so wish, otherwise, we can move forward from here with just those two restrictions in place." Nick smiles at Malcolm, "While our current HQ can be found on Trenton, we are in the process of constructing a Personal Station as well as being busy with a more... complex... project. You will find yourself welcome on the Station itself and will find we can be very discreet when we have to be." Leaning back, Nick indicates the datapad and clearly visible on its screen is a short contract, a mere three lines, that briefly outlines a partnership arrangement between The Forlorn Hope and Malcolm Haynes, a space left open for a signature. Smiling easily at Malcolm, Nick stretches slightly, before speaking once more. "I do hope you find our terms favorable and that you will accept."

A Slimy Situation IV

Malcolm: "No offense meant, it's just flying under your colors might complicate things in our field of work. I'm sure you folks understand. We need to be able to stay off radar in case things go wrong. It works both ways, as you won't be directly tied to any of it; surely you don't want to risk your name coming up everytime. The rest we can figure out as we go."

Malcolm takes the datapad, pausing to look both of them in the eyes one last time, and proceeds to sign the agreement.

Malcolm: "To our new partnership, then!" he exclaims, raising his glass and finishing his drink. "Let's get to work. You know how to find me."

The captain and Jacob grab their things and head off to the hangar, waiting to be picked up by their shuttle. While they didn't expect so many complications for a simple talk, their business on the station was finally over and they could return home, to the Equanimity.
