RE: WAR! when? - Durandal - 04-23-2018 Shifting the focus back to Bretonia vs Gallia is an enormous and awkward step backwards. @Lythrilux already pointed out why activity against Liberty is a must. While I would never advocate the ridiculous notion of pitting three houses against one, the vast majority of activity of the server is always going to stem from whoever Liberty is at war with. RE: WAR! when? - Kazinsal - 04-23-2018 Ooh. Gallia vassalizes the Sigmas through manipulation of Kusari and Rheinland. The GMG objects severely. Kusari and Liberty get into the thick of it. Rheinland tries to calm the GMG down and gets 80 Years War'd. e: I want to see a GMG dreadnought now. They get exactly one. And it will be glorious. RE: WAR! when? - sindroms - 04-23-2018 Honestly, I would like to see what would happen if all Libertonian pvp-focused IDs ended up getting roflstomped and have to join the Rogues in the asteroid fields and resort to guerella warfare. I am legitemately curious how would a ''completely destroyed'' house look like, with all lanes busted, all stations wrecked, a pitsburg-esque texture given to a nuked out Manhattan. Discovery Freelancer 4.91 - Fall of Liberty RE: WAR! when? - Lythrilux - 04-23-2018 @Durandal because of Gallia, is a WW1-style scenario where Sirius splits up into alliances not possible? Considering Gallia canonically had something like 200 Valors waiting to nuke the hell out of Sirius at some point around 4.86, and that fleet jumping is fairly common among even well-off secondary fleets and non-house [para]militaries, they could suicide jump fifty of them into Manhattan orbit and just rip New York apart from the inside out. The Valor's forward gun is some kind of giant tachyon-encased antimatter projector. Even a couple Valors would be able to destroy most of the civilization on a planet's hemisphere before going down. Fifty Valors would be a quarter of the Gallic fleet and would utterly eliminate a house from within. Personally I consider this to be a sort of plot armour, in the form of a plot trebuchet. e: I am not counting the circa 2011 estimate of Gallia having over a thousand Valors as being canonical because that was the peak of Igiss' madness talking and if that were anything near true, Discovery's plot would have ended in 4.88. Gallia and Liberty being knocked down to the same level as the other three houses, and former fringe elements going for the power vacuum is far more likely. As much as I'd love to see houses resort to more guerrilla tactics and privateers with more invasive ZOI sabotaging and raiding, are there any big plans for any criminal or independent factions to become more significant players we should know about at the current time? RE: WAR! when? - Durandal - 04-23-2018 Yes. I'd have your eyes on the Maquis, Corse, Gaians, Mollies, Xenos, and yes, sorry not sorry, the Legion. Also not unlawful, but Crayter somewhat falls into that category as well. RE: WAR! when? - Yeggito - 04-24-2018 I love the open/transparent discussion about the potential future storylines; I feel like this is normally reserved for groupchats of those in the know (and digned to NDA’s). The notion of “leveling the playing field” between houses is a welcome one; however, balancing, as well as rationalizing in-game activity vs. lore-dicated ‘strength’, is always a challenge (and that’s an understatement). I, personally, like to look at the NavMap and see areas where there is a power vacuum, with several factions in play, often with a lucrative in-RP asset; while houses may be involved, it’s far enough outside of thier borders that a reduced strength matches well with the snaller, contesting faction on thier home turf; I feel Planet Saigon is a great example. Not all systems can be highly sought after, but I do have to say, the cuurent state has a good mix; home/guard statems, contested space, amd neutral systems. Also, that Hypergate between Poole and Alberta... seems...quite dangerous if it fell into the wring hands. As for this sort of discussion usually being reserved for behind the scenes stuff, I'm not giving any explicit details here. Only hinting at things and stating things which are already public knowledge. Admittedly I do feel its a step up from the previous status quo where literally nothing could be said about the storyline before a patch was dropped. |
