RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Doc Holliday - 10-05-2019 "I think you missed my point," replied Doc. "It is not up to the Zoners to come to peace with their conquerors, in this case, Bretonia. Quite the opposite. If Bretonia ever wants a peaceful existence in Omega 49, it is their peace to make. Until then, you will have resistance and guerilla fighters. That said, I have been brought on to keep medical care top notch on the planet and the first way to do that is prevent more fighting and therefore, more injury or even death." He looked straight at the captain. "I know you are not stupid and I know that some of you knows that I am right but that is overshadowed by your allegiance to the crown. As a doctor, there is only so much that I can do. As I said, the ball is in the Queen's court." RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Thunderer - 10-05-2019 Not a frown, but a smile, that is what Holliday's words produced on Elizabeth. She had something on her mind. Something sly. "There is this one thing... The Zoners have never accepted it, but maybe both sides are desperate enough for a compromise. I suppose you have heard of the Sydney Accords?" She turns the display towards him and it shows a scanned digital version of the document. "Take a close look at Article Three." He thought to when a Bretonian delegation pointed out that when a group who signed a treaty that the treaty is null and void in this case, the Port Jackson Accords. He then handed it back, bringing up the argument. He then stated, "The Coalition is no longer a part of this so according to your own law, this treaty is null and void. That will have to be started from scratch my good captain." RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Thunderer - 10-05-2019 A grimace of perplexity took place instead of the iron wall of confidence on Elizbeth's face, throwing her entirely out of the loop. "How do you mean... The Coalition is no longer part of this?" RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Doc Holliday - 10-05-2019 Doc thinks for a moment and looks something up on his datapad before returning his attention to his host with a nod. "I stand corrected," he replied. He then handed her back the document. "Still, as there is no Zoner signature anywhere, they are not represented and therefore will never accept this. It is not a John Holliday thing but it is a Zoner thing. If Omicron Supply, who were in charge of the system opted not to be a part then that is there business but those living on the surface and.............the Cretans who have made their home on the planet......will not see themselves as represented and will not accept Bretonian oversight." He sipped his Scotch, "Again, the ball is in the Crown's court." RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Thunderer - 10-05-2019 "In the queen's court?", Elizabeth snapped at him, "Because your detonation of a nuclear bomb in Tombstone has kicked it there? Oh please, doctor, spare me from this mask of self-righteousness. What do you say, a random innocent Zoner under unjust scrutiny by an evil empire, is that what you are? A random innocent Zoner who detonated a bleeding nuclear bomb just to murder an old teacher? What, was the teacher going to bomb you first!? Hahahahaha! Sir! You are here because fixing this planet requires both: a Zoner, and a Bretonian! And we know we are both equally grey. But Good Sir, if only I am ready for a compromise, then there can be no deal, and the nearly two million soldiers we have on this planet will kick the ball wherever they like, no matter if you or I want it, or not. I've spent a decade living on this planet. Do you think I want to terrorize my friends? My duty goes before what I want, and my duty is to establish peace here, one way or the other. Endorsement, Sir, that is what will set you free. Endorsement and compromise, or prison and violence. I say, Sir, it is now in your court." RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Doc Holliday - 10-05-2019 Doc had a temper and it was well known and quite quick. He stood up, leaning on the edge of her desk and looking straight into her face. "You are damned right I blasted my home! I was here long before Bretonia and I will be damned if I was going to let the Crown have the home that I built!" He then stood back on his feet after slamming his fists on her desk. "That teacher was already dead when I detonated it so yes, I am a random innocent Zoner!" He took a deep sigh and collected himself, realizing that a cat was out of it's bag. Still, he kept his focus. "It was just as well," he continued calmly with a depressed tone. "Midori was gone and that large home just was not the same afterward. I destroyed what was becoming a bad memory. If I am guilty of anything it is having an undying faith in humanity." He sat down, somewhat depressed. He consumed the remains of his glass of Scotch and finished, "So go ahead, throw me in Newgate. I will probably get a better reception from those you call enemies then I will the Crown itself." RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Thunderer - 10-05-2019 There was a small button under the desk, and its use was to call the guards in. Elizabeth's finger was caressing it. But when Holliday mentioned that the professor had already been dead, it suddenly moved off. In this second, the dots inside Elizabeth's mind connected into theories. She extended her chin and neck towards Holliday, as if inviting him to snatch it with his hands in anger, spitefully indicating that she was not afraid. But despite already being convicted for life, Holliday did not let anger take the better of him. "Sir, I know it was not you who killed the professor." Instead of the alarm, Elizabeth tapped her communication device, and it was now recording sound. RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Doc Holliday - 10-05-2019 He sighed and sunk his head a bit as emotions of happier times past overtook him. He put his glass down so that his hands could just fall together in his lap. "No," escaped his lips in a soft, barely audible voice. He sat motionless and quiet as he remembered vividly how angry he was with William Mortimer and how he didn't deserve the fate he received. He sat, his left elbow planted on the armrest of his chair while his hand supported his head. He broke his stance long enough to refill his glass before returning to sulk in his chair, the glass in his right hand. He sipped it before saying anything else. "He was an honorable man," he said softly in remembrance, "he came to reason with me, to guarantee that I would be left alone if I had placed my estate as property of the University." He sighed. "I saw it as handing my home over to the Crown and became incensed, not at him but the very thought that again the Crown would get the best of me." He then quickly consumed the contents of his glass and sat still. "I do wish that I could forget that day. He did not not deserve his fate." RE: The Captain and the Doctor (RP with Thunderer) - Thunderer - 10-06-2019 Elizabeth lifted the glass of scotch and, taking a sip, threw a long, analytical look Holliday's way. When she placed it back on the desk, the sound echoed throughout the sudden silence. "What was the murder weapon, your bare hands? What, do you doctors walk around carrying guns everywhere? Nuclear bombs maybe, in extreme cases? No, Sir, I refuse to believe it was you. And if you insist it was, here, prove it!" She raises and bares her neck again. "I am the embodiment of Bretonia's power here. Have at me!" |
