@rayne: Becoming skint is a great way to go "cold turkey", worked wonders for me!
As for private servers, you miss out on one of the big parts of wow in my opinion. The whole mass of people who play it. Though, not being ganked in northrend/outlands by bored lvl 80s on epic mounts would be a vast improvement >.<

Money is never a problem for me, i just didnt renew my subs and that was the end of it, second attempt at quitting and it worked, plus wotlk got boring very fast once at lvl 80

Not only did it get boring, I got tired of the endless grind. Grind to x level, get gear for next dungeon, grind rep, get gear for next two dungeons, new expansion, grind to x level, get gear for next dungeon, grind rep...ect ect ect.

There was a thread similiar to this on these forums months ago. It was locked, because as mentioned before, it breaches the Blizzard ToU, and is therefore illegal.
