SUBJECT: Outcast Warship

Konbanwa,

While we were escorting the Orbital Spa & Cruise convoy through Honshu, an Outcast Warship appeared on our tails and it seemed like it was trying to find a suitable location to ambush them. Unlucky that he got caught in the act.

Zuikaku was notified and immediately plotted a course to our location. While stalling the warship and preventing it from fleeing the scene, it had the nerve to insult the capability of our 'Takeda' class destroyers.

As soon as Zuikaku arrived, the Outcast knew he was in trouble and became aggressive. Both the Shokaku and Zuikaku returned fire and unleashed hell upon it, making use of the enemy warship's lack of agility. Within minutes, it was blown up and destroyed before it could cause any major damage around Kusari.

The Outcast made a mistake underestimating the power of the Takeda and certainly paid a huge price for it. With his life that is.

SUBJECT: Clash with a Blood Dragon Cruiser in Tottori

Having returned from Sigma-63 after some time spent establishing the first colony, "Zuiryu" returned to its side duty of assisting the law enforcement in Kusari. On our trip to the Tottori system to investigate the newly arrived OSC vessel "Maldives" and its safety we encountered a Blood Dragons war vessel "Kamiziumi". The vessel was of a cruiser or equivalent class. In an attempt to avert a hostility possibly detrimental to Tokai station in the vicinity of which the encounter took place, I made a request that the Dragons vessel took the distance of at least 15 clicks. The Dragon initially complied yet consciously violated the distance subsequently resulting in "Zuiryu" taking action. In short close-range combat, the Dragons vessel was disabled. The fight occurred at a distance of 13-14 clicks from Tokai station and I consider it to be safe from the collateral damage and the debris.

The log of the encounter is attached below.

Konnichiwa!

So today, it is my official first report within the clan. Sorry to take my personal one...
Today, some hours earlier, three GC were sitting in Honshu for traders as we thought Shimamori-san and I. Shimamori-san told me that: You're allowed to open fire at will. That's what I did and they were put down.

All will be in the black box.

SUBJECT: Charting Deeper Omicrons

Today "Zuiryu" ventured on an exploration mission into deeper Omicrons to charter possible new rifts and to triangulate the position of the already observed from Kusari systems. We departed from Honshu and through Shizuoka (Sigma-21) we made a swift jump through Sigma-15 into Omicron Rho. Sigma-15 is claimed by Rheinland and has an established colony and thus we stayed far away from the Rheinland sphere of influence to avoid unnecessary attention and not to alert the locals. Similarly, we traversed through Omicron Rho into Omicron Minor. The system is a graveyard, apparently, with many derelict ships of all sizes. We did not manage to establish what the battle was and who were the combatants. Most of the hulls resembled badly damaged ships of older Core designs, the others were resembling Libertarian ships, possibly Order. The decision was made not to linger in the system and venture forth. The next jump led us to the Omicron Nu system - previously not visited by the crew under my command.

The system originally appeared as a regular deeper Omicron space with outcrops of green nebulae. Our scanners picked up the frequencies of an installation not very far from the jumphole, the IFF indicating it was a zoner station. "Zuiryu" hailed the station and we approached the safe distance on the one hand to have the access to the supplies in case of necessity but far enough not to alert the zoners (who are generally fringing upon larger ships approaching their installations) and to allow us to carry out stellar observations. Upon completion thereof, we made a small reconnaissance flight around the system and found a terrestrial planet surrounded by ancient debris, allegedly of Libertarian design, and an inconspicuous gas giant. The debris looked old and perhaps related to some battle or a disaster. The fact that there were only ships of Libertairan design prompted our analysts to believe that whatever happened there happened to Libertarians alone, or their rival was so capable that it inflicted a disastrous defeat upon a huge fleet of Libertarians without suffering any losses or having covered them up afterwards. Regardless, there is nothing in Libertarian history books resembling even to the slightest degree a battle of such scale that would take such a long time ago. We are still to analyse the age of that debris meticulously but preliminary estimations give the age of 300 years. The only notable event in the history of Liberty that took place at that time and could possibly be related to the debris is the infamous Dallas Incident, but whether there is a relation or not is yet to be proven.

Our presence in the system, apparently, alerted the locally stationed Libertarian forces. After not quite long presence in the system we were spotted and hailed by an LSF cruiser, and later on an Liberty Navy warship. To the merit of the Libertarians, the officers in charge were very civil and not living up to the brass stereotypes about the Liberty Navy commonly found on the Neural Net. The LSF vessel captain inquired about our identifications, the route that we used to get into the system, and the purpose of our presence. Naturally, we replied with reciprocal courtesy and provided the Libertarians with all the information sought. What was peculiar, however, was that the Libertarians continuously tried to convince us to remove all the chartering data about the system. With no valid legal grounds behind their requests, they had to be satisfied with our "no". Nevertheless, I decided to withdraw "Zuiryu" from the system to avert further unease. The Libertarians also insisted that we have a medical check-up of all personnel following the visit to Omicron Nu. My only guess is that there is some contamination in the system, possibly an infectious disease akin to what the reports about the situation in Tohoku claim. If so, Omicron Nu is better not to be visited for the time being, or in the presence of a medical support vessel.

Having left Omicron Nu, "Zuiryu" was followed by an unidentified object, presumably an autonomous drone. It certainly was sentient and artificial but the scanning did not reveal its relatedness to any known factions' ship lines. We managed to establish contact with the entity in question using both binary code and verbal communication, however, the feedback in the binary code proved to be too complex to be analysed in situ. Our questions mostly remained unanswered as the entity insisted upon our encroaching on its space and demanded our speedy departure. While the hull of such an interesting object could be of great interest to the academics back on Honshu, I did not have the gut to engage in hostilities with a sentient entity of unknown origin. We have no idea what we were dealing with and how potent (or not) it was. And so we decided to leave peacefully leaving the entity to itself. Besides, I would not like to have the dubious honour of portraying our species as warmongers. The vessel in question lost interest in our ship after Omicron Rho and we safely returned back to Honshu using the previous itinerary.

The logs of both encounters are attached below.

In eternal service to His Imperial Majesty and the Empire of Kusari,
Koushaku Shimamori

SUBJECT: GC raid in Shikoku

Greetings to the Shimamori Clan!
KOI operative is under attack

This is Yury Bolotin with a report on the situation that happened yesterday in the Shikoku system. During my patrol, the so called Gen'an Chrysanthemums approached trade lane near the planet Seto. GC's forces consisted of three "Iris" VHFs, a hired freelancer "Sabre" VHF, and a hired pirate "Montante" gunship. They blocked the trade lane and ambushed a fighter beloning to the Kusari Office of Intelligence. There were no negotiations, they opened fire at KOI ship. I understood the suicidal nature of my attack, but I expected that we would hold out until reinforcements from the planet Junyo will arrive, so I joined the battle.

The moment of ejection
The fight quickly flared up and also quickly went out. There were too many of them. The fire of the gunboat was directed at KOI ship, my Sabre was under fire from three GCs. Looking back on it now, I think I should have focused on the evasive maneuvers to buy some time. Instead, when I realized the Freelancer is doing the same, I charged into one of the chasing Chrysanthemums. I swear I saw her jumping out of her skin when I drained all of Irises shield in one pass. However, her friends didn't let me finish her off - one of them landed a continuous burst into the back of my fighter. A fire started in the main engine compartment. The flame did not break down, and the automatic system could not help without turning off the engine, which would be tantamount to death. I glanced to the long-range scanner, where the green marks began to appear, and decided to eject. The Kusari Office of Intelligence operative also lost a ship. Both of us were lucky to survive until reinforcements have arrived. They drove the criminals deep into the system and picked up our rescue pods. My ship was found - almost all armor plating has to be replaced, as well as the main engine. But I think it's light enough damage for such a fight. Find attached all the data I gathered, please consider persecution of those two sympathizers.

Interception

The good news is that I evened the losses before that fight. I used the opportunity to continue working on the official Kusari bounty boards which was kindly given to me by Shimamori-san. I intercepted two GC VHFs near the Saiun Cloud, who were in a hurry to join the main group preparing for the attack, as I now know. I have provided confirmation of their destruction on the official Kusari Empire bounty board. Here I am also providing raw guncam footage for internal use. I would describe Gen'an Chrysanthemums as fickle: in one situation they support some concept of honorable duels, in another they attack like bandits from the shadows. They are organized and undoubtedly dangerous in large numbers, but individually do not pose a serious threat. I hope that we will get rid of this criminals as soon as possible. I will do my best for this.

Yury out.

SUBJECT: Provocation of the Gallic Navy in Rishiri (Tau-53)

A disturbing turn of events I could observe today. During the routine movement of "Zuiryu" through the system of Rishiri a signature of the Gallic Union Navy was detected. It was no less but a "Valor"-equivalent battleship-class vessel with a powerful forward cannon capable of inflicting unspeakable damage as we know from the results of the Gallic invasion into Sirius. The vessel in question without any introduction demanded us to vacate the system. Me being a supporter of peaceful policy towards all the neighbouring Houses, I was ready to come to a compromise by leaving the system on condition that the Gallic vessel would assume a safe distance from the civilian objects and would promise not to endanger any objects belonging to the Empire. Nonetheless, my suggestion was met on the deaf ear with accusations of the Empire of Kusari and subsequent discharge of energy blasts towards Matsumoto battlegroup and the civilian stations. I still tried to reason with the Gallic captain invoking my role in the recent Kusari-Gallia war and my advocacy for peace. Yet again, any aspirations of mine to resolve the incident peacefully were not met with understanding. Our last hopes to deter the Gallic vessel from escalating the conflict waned after we intercepted its order to attack "Zuiryu" directly followed by energy projectiles barrage. To protect the civilian infrastructure and curb hostile actions against the allied vessels of the KNF, we were forced to reply with force and successfully so. After a long fight, we managed to cripple and disable the Gallic warship. The nearby stations were informed of the outcome of the battle in order to take care of the survivors and either return them to Gallia or charge will trespassing. "Zuiryu" sustained light damage and was repaired at Asahikawa Outpost, requiring mostly outer hull refurbishing.

The log of the encounter is attached below.

Such incidents were predicted after the end of the war but I expected more integrity and logic from the Gauls, albeit I understand and relate to their sentiments. Violence, however, is not an answer and we must look attentively at such incidents to develop a robust diplomatic strategy preventing them from happening in the future. I will also take action to investigate the scope of the warmongering among the Gallic Navy in the border systems before making a report to the government. It might have been an exception, or it might have been an indicator of the already growing revanchism in the circles of the Gallic Union Navy that de facto controls the new administration of Gallia. Regardless of the conclusion, the Imperial Cabinet shall be informed of the developments.

SUBJECT: Mystery with KSP officer Minato

During our travels throughout Kusari and aiding the law enforcement in their job we have encountered on multiple occasions a KSP gunboat piloted by officer Minato. The keikan (//police officer) was most helpful during many fights against the GC and diligently carried out his duty. After one of our patrols, I had an opportunity to talk to officer Minato and this conversation was accompanied by rather disturbing anomalies, so to say.

It is quite common among the KSP officers to discuss their experience with criminals. By the time of the conversation in question, we had had multiple discussions of the GC with officer Minato. This time I mentioned the Blood Dragons and the officer's communication was disrupted by some interferences. Suspicious of possible pressure on the officer by the crew, I cautiously inquired if his loyalty was being tested and that I, not being a member of KSP, would show utmost understanding. This inquiry led to further interferences and quaint remarks by officer Minato, such as "I have done nothing wrong", or "I am sure of that" [his loyalty to Kusari], as well as stumbling on words and repeating phrases to himself as if re-assuring of something. Minato-san also mentioned some "they" whoever this pronoun might refer to. I am unsure of what is going on with the officer. It might be anything: psychological pressure from blackmailing by, say, Blood Dragons forcing the officer to work for them, simple burn-out and resulting psychological problems, or something completely different up to alien infection. In particular, the keikan mentioned that a significant part of his crew was replaced by an AI as the result of the shortage of staff following the war against Gallia. This is but one of the many negative ramifications of the war and perhaps impacts the capacity of the officer to communicate with the others either because of technical issues or because of the rogue AI trying to enforce its will on the vessel captain (although this is still unlikely).

I will keep monitoring the officer should I encounter him. Keep your eyes on him too. Such developments are mysterious and I have no idea what to expect of them. The logs of the encounter are attached.

SUBJECT: Skirmish with AI vessel

Our stellar observation mission today in Tottori was disturbed by an unusual sight. A large vessel of unknown IFF was spotted in the distance coming from Hyakushou cloud. I expected a Blood Dragons' transport or a war vessel but instead saw what appeared to be one of those drones sometimes observed during trips into deeper Omicrons. This one, however, was larger and, therefore, more dangerous. I remember perfectly well how "territorial" these machines can be so the presence of one of those far away from the Omicrons in Tottori was a rare and disturbing sight. Having consulted with the crew, I took liberty to interpret the presence of the large drone vessel as in violation of Article 1 of Section 5 of the Kusari Stellar Code, namely the presence of non-Kusari capital vessels.

Remembering the capacity of the drones to "reason" we gave the vessel a fair warning and asked to leave the system to avoid hostilities. The vessel refused, implying that it does not take orders from humans. Perhaps, a result of its rigid programming. It was more talkative regarding the purpose of its presence in Tottori. I tried to avoid possible infringing the lives of my crew so we gave the situation a chance to resolve diplomatically and inquired regarding the purposes of the presence of the drone. Apparently, it was looking for "eyes and hears", spies who would wish to collaborate with the sentient machines. I do not know whether such an endeavour might have a chance of success but I do think it can be classified as a surreptitious activity harmful to Kusari or simply - espionage.

Upon hearing its purposes, I gave the vessel the last warning to leave before we engage. Our demands were not met and we performed our duty before the Emperor and eliminated the possible theat. The crew showed itself magnificently and "Zuiryu" sustained acceptable damage to be repaired after we get back to a suitable base. The results of this encounter certainly will be of interest to the Kusari authorities and the KOI which might start looking into this matter more deeply.

SUBJECT: Outcast pirate in Kyushu

The situation with piracy in Kusari remains unsatisfactory. During a regular trip to Tottori yesterday the "Zuiryu" intercepted an outcast bomber in the vicinity of Tsushima depot. The culprit refused to leave and then dared to attack a transport vessel KTS-Myoko right under the fire of the defence turrets of the station and even under the fire of the "Nagasaki". Normally, I give the outcasts a chance to leave in peace but an attack on the transport vessel left us no choice but to intervene. In a short skirmish, the bomber was disabled, and the "Myoko" sustained superficial damage and continued its journey. This is an indicator that more police force is needed and recruitment efforts for the KSP need to be re-considered. The logs of the encounter are added below.

Today, I was with Minato Takahashi. We patrolled a bit in New Tokyo and Hoshu. Suddenly, Minato caught a S.O.S distress from Hokkaido. I was volunteer to go take a look because Minato couldn't go elsewhere. The distress call was coming from the point F3.

When I reached the location, there was nothing. Minato told me to meet him at the center of the system and by his voice, he seemed to fear something. I do not know what exactly but he warnt me that if I go further, something might come for me...

I ended up to be in Tohoku following the distress call. I am currently on the battleship Sado. I keep my eyes open and as always, I will stay vigilant.
