RE: Ad Victoriam - Victor Steiner - 07-17-2022

Steiner was shocked. Not only at the impudence of such a demand but also at the way in which it was given. Was Bretonia now Liberty? Thinly veiled threats and demands given under the guise of support and friendship? He looked at the Armed Forces Captain with a mixture of horror and disappointment, he had the audacity to call it a 'proposal'? Steiner would have almost called it an ultimatum, so much for the subtly of the Bretonians, oh how the mighty have fallen.

He looked back at the Crayterians, some sympathy for those who had decided to live outside the House, or perhaps they were the fortunate ones. I will give what support I can, Bretonia did once honour our friendships and our word was iron He shot a glance at Bartholomew Some of us still remember that. The Service will help where it can, I give you my word.

He leant back into the chair, decidedly unhappy about how unnecessary it was for the Armed Forces to make such a demand, but he was...at very least, legally obligated to go along with it. While he waited for the Crayterian response, he wondered what Bartholomew would do if they told him the opposite of what he wanted.

Before Steiner had even begun assuming his position to speak, Horatio smirked in anticipation of a disagreement. Having spent several months closely studying Steiner, Bartholomew was well aware of the charismatic director's disaccord with the opinions embraced by the more militarist parts of the officer corps.

Unlike Victor's eagerness to secure Bretonia's future diplomatically, the cold-hearted and calculated Horatio was in almost direct opposition to the Director. Wishing to expand the Realm's reach beyond the existing borders through a more hardline approach, favoring the usage of the experienced military, Horatio was keen on returning to the Admiral's office with a proposal agreed upon by the Crayterians, allowing for further control and closer cooperation with the young democracy.

One trait shared amongst both representatives, however, was the hate towards their Libertonian counterparts. Over the years, much of the experienced officers became frustrated with Liberty's approach to the Gallic conflict -- one of stubborn and almost-wasteful counterattacks. It seemed as if their fleets were damaged on purpose. Recent endeavors of Her Majesty's Royal Navy also proved the suspicions correct, as lack of intelligence had led to complete disaster in the initial stages of the Vespucci campaign.

One of the motives behind holding this meeting was the need to steer Crayter away from Liberty's influence and closer to Bretonia -- or her newly-found partners, the Kusarians.

But the matter had yet to be settled. Horatio, now having presented both sides of the proposal, turned to the Crayter delegation, await their own response.

Ryo smiled and looked at the Bretonians, looking them in their eyes to see this shift between the two services of the Kingdom.

Gentlemen, as you know, we are governed by the United Nations Charter and our mandate is to maintain friendly relations with our neighbours unless they are threatening the lives of Civilians, the development of the area or are a direct threat to the Republic's survival and ideals. Our affairs with the Gauls are mostly on a somewhat economic level and that is the standard template with any political entity. Now, if the Kingdom would agree to make some more economical incentives towards the industries of Crayter, to its merchant fleet and be able to provide a free market where the Crayterian goods can be sold, I am sure that would make our ties even closer to the Kingdom than anything else. Despite our years of war, the Republic is only meant as a safe place for everyone who wishes to start a new and to follow the old directives of the United Nation, before the Great Space War." he continued to smile and eye Steiner "I think that our best bet if we would have our CIS and your BIS coordinate some actions to gather more information regarding the Auxesia. Is best to know more before we openly move toward them. We would need to discuss further details if this is agreed, for the BIS to be stationed on one of our Islands but I have to give you a warning that our security is pretty tight." he moved to the Horatio "Sir, as I stated earlier on, ships are not really the issue and also I would like to mention that our ships are somewhat different and any changes would require lots of training, is the manpower and Crayterian War Doctrine is a bit different than the normal Sirian houses, plus your proposal would be a bit awkward as in our Nation, everyone who serves under a crayterian service branch, becomes enlisted as a citizen. That is our Constitution and that is what determines our soldiers to give their best. If we would accept bretonian soldiers to work in our armed forces, they would automatically become Crayterian Citizens, subject to all the regulations which come with that title."

He stopped for a moment, took a small breath and continued "I propose something else and I think that we may find common ground. There are several entities which are becoming a problem for both of our nations, for the great Bretonian Kingdom and for our Republic. We once worked together very closely and our people have bled for the ideals of the Bretonian society. I believe we can become once more close allies and you have seen that we are not afraid to fight for our allies if needed. We proved it during the Gallic wars and we also did it while we were fighting the Outcast hordes."he stopped a few seconds to create the moment "I propose the following. First, CIS and BIS to work together to identify the threats and supporters from Auxesia and also we need to look at whom or what can impede the peaceful lives within or outside your borders, I am sure that there is more than one concern in that regard. Secondly, we should discuss closer economically ties and a possible reduction in the cost of materials, thus allowing us to make more contracts with you than with any other economical partners. At the same time, we would offer the same for our goods. Thirdly, the permission to open recruitment offices on the Bretonian planets to present the ideals and the goals of our Republic and what would entail if they chose to join us." he looked around "Fourthly, a treaty between our Nations in regards to borders, duties, joint missions and so long. What you think?"

With Ryo's response concluded, Horatio strolled back to the hologram, but did not change its display until after stating: "I am glad to hear these terms. Cratyer's interests are important to the Kingdom and, due to the variable changes in the geopolitical environment of Sirius, we must work towards finding mutual goals and ways to best cooperate."

He then looked for a last time to Miss Lily Ward, allowing the words to be understood, before turning to the hologram projector and switching the display to the first treaty proposal.

Once that had been done, he turned back to the Crayterians, and with an animated tone, begun speaking: "Gentlemen, these are our terms. Please examine the treaty and inform of any changes you deem necessary."

With the proposal now being looked at by both Crayter representatives, Bartholomew returned to his chair and awaited their reponse.

RE: Ad Victoriam - Crayter Republic - 07-29-2022

Ward walked over to her seat and grabbed a data pad. "And here I thought there wasn't really a reason I came along!" She then made her way to the display and motioned to captain Bartholomew. "May I?" She made her copy on the data pad and immediately started tapping away, while she walked back to Kase.

"You may know that Yuma is a water planet, and there is no native land on the surface yet. So all islands are man made. There is no way we'd have something ready for you, especially of that size. We do have our own military bases planet side that you will be able to place a garrison on for the operations." She nodded to Kase for an agreement. "Also something that there should be noted that there is no mining operations in Tau-44 by the Republic." Looking up at the two rather confused gentlemen, she knew neither of them really wrote this treaty but she wished the Bretonian assembly that did. Researched a little.

She let out a groan, looking up to Steiner. Waving to Kase. "We also didn't just come here for Aux and Inverness, concerning gallia." She returned back to her data pad tapping away.

Ryo Kase leaned forward towards Steiner. "Yes, about Gallia" He leaned back and raised a hand close to his face with a slight glared. He did mean to intimidate, he just seems like it. "Due to our different position with Gallia we've been able to investigate into the Royalist movement and other groups within it far better than we could otherwise. Cutting ties now would slam the door on too many opportunities and operations. If an invasion of the Inverness is deemed feasible, it means the Republic will be able to defend itself from such threats." He moved his head to look at the Captain. "Then we will be able to face down Gallia together." He looked to Ward and gave the minister a nod. Then relaxed in his seat.

Lily gave a return nod. "Right, here are our counter terms. Please, take all the time you need to read them over." She returned to the display and showed her copy.

RE: Ad Victoriam - Darius - 07-31-2022

Horatio felt embarrassed by the remarks, moreso as he had looked down on the Crayter citizens, in part due to their past and adamant attitude to remain "free". But duty called, and he could not simply await another day. The time to act was now.

Claiming back his place adjacent to the hologram display, but nevertheless not taking a seat, he referred to the guests. "We agree with the stated terms, however with only one difference. Neither the Intelligence Service of Bretonia nor that of Crayter, as far as we understand, are capable of maintaining such large contingents. It is neither useful nor productive to reside more than a total of 2,000 personnel, and that is what we have amended. I also wish to state the we agree with the approach suggested in point four of the economic articles, as it is important for Crayter to hastily rebuilding its holding in Tau-Fourthy-Four."

Turning to the hologram, the displayed the proposal and awaited the final reply, yet not before bringing up the fact that he had offered his signature for theirs.

"This is our amendment to the treaty. You will see to it that I have also added my signature so that we finish this chapter of history at a swift pace. Not to forget, I must also mention that, as I represent the Armed Forces, and Director Steiner, the Intelligence Service, this proposal will also have to pass through the Prime Minister's office for approval. It will be announced over the diplomatic channel once our part of the agreement is ratified and approved by the Sir Jones."

Bartholomew had completed his part, now. Returning to his seat, the Crayter delegates examined and the proposal, whilst Steiner too awaited their reply before submitting his own signature.

RE: Ad Victoriam - Victor Steiner - 07-31-2022

Bartholomew raised a good point, where exactly Steiner was going to find five thousand people just laying around was beyond him. But perhaps it would better to have a few vacant spots, just in case something happened. If nothing else, the Royal Marines could fill the gaps, if they ever needed to be sent somewhere on short notice. Perhaps it would be prudent to keep it at three thousand, I expect our agencies to grow over time. But my colleague is right, five thousand does seem somewhat....excessive. All the same

He signed on the dotted line, but not without a sense of dread at doing so. He knew far too little about the Crayterians, and Steiner didn't like not knowing.

RE: Ad Victoriam - Crayter Republic - 08-01-2022

Ward nods her head angeringly. She turns to Ryo Kase with a raised eyebrow, waiting to see what he thinks. She was met with the same nod as he rose to add his signature.

"Gentlemen I believe we have come to an agreement! Quickly! We must sign for the prosperity of both our nations!" He signed his name with urgency and then proceeded to give a almost chuckling sigh of relief. Lilly Ward then finished it off with her own. Solidifying the deal.

RE: Ad Victoriam - Darius - 08-01-2022

With the Crayter delegates hastily offering their signatures, Horatio briefly smiled before closing down the hologram, with the now-completed treaty.

He turned one last time towards the guests and addressed them. "It was our honor to welcome such a visit to our Kingdom. With it, our nations now march together towards a better and brighter future. And we shall meet again in the future, to ensure all points discussed are respected. As a last concern I need mention, the Chief of Defence Staff will contact the Republic over the diplomatic channels as soon as the treaty is approved by the Prime Minister."

Exchanging short farewells with the rest of the diplomatic staff, the Crayter Republic representatives were then escorted by the same guards whom had brought them to the palace back to their shuttles, headed back to their capital under escort.

But not all was done, and Horatio was now tasked with transmitting the agreement further, to the Prime Minister's office, where it would also be examined and likely amended to better suit the needs and desires of those in the current cabinet. Still so, a great task was accomplished, and the public would welcome this news ahead of the storm bound for the Realm in the coming months.
