I suppose a few things have changed around recently. To get a jump start on things, you can apply for a Vet's Package. I'd also recommend looking over the current Official Factions, see if there's anything Corsair or Outcast related that you may be interested in.
Thanks for the welcome, I've been reading the changelogs since 5.0 was implemented, there's a lot to explore and test

I think the same, I have played EVE online and Elite Dangerous but this game has something that makes it unique, even for those of us who played it decades ago.
