Imprisonment - Warden - 05-25-2009 March 14th, 798 AS The inmates' jokes and reasoning have never seemed so stupid to me. They thing somethings they really shouldn't. It's a joke, really, what they think. Broken ideals, followed by stupid actions to back up their broken ideals. Even stupider ideas of how we think of them. Idiots...All of them. Rheinland thinks of more important things of getting vengeance on petty criminals. To think, the Rheinwehr wanting to kill petty Rheinlanders for raiding an ALG convoy. Utterly pathetic to think of, that we'd be so petty. There is so much they don't know. Imprisonment - Warden - 06-07-2009 Anya's office remained dim, lit only by the singular lamp which remained by her desk. Though the light bulb had been changed, the lamp still gave off a low luminosity, and the mood it reflected remained ominous. Anya sat at the desk, as usual, her pale green uniform submitting a contrast to the blue dark room around her. "Anya," Johann inquired, opening the door, "You have another missive from Defense Minister Gross." "Lay it on the table, please. I'll look at it after I finish this report back to Minister Kohler about the conditions of the lower decks." "Alright, ma'am," Johann responded, doing as Anya said and leaving the room solemnly. Staring blankly at the door, Anya's heart filled with dread. The very notion that Johann's torment would be repeated by another forced Anya to begin shaking. She cut open the envelope, breathing deeply, and looked at what it said with mild surprise. Anya Amsel: There has been great success in the researching of human enhancements by organic supplementation. Due to the high stress and difficulty of your position, you have been chosen for enhancement by the Ministry of Defense. Despite any fears or admonitions you may have, a response to this message will either result in relief from your position, or a shuttle to Mainz Storage Facility, Frankfurt, at the earliest possible time. Best Wishes - Defense Minister Guido Gross Anya sat in the dark for several minutes, contemplating the missive. What exactly was meant by the ambiguous wording of the enhancement was clear to Anya, however, whether or not retirement was entirely worth what Johann endured was a question she did not enjoy pondering. Imprisonment - Warden - 07-17-2009 The days grew longer since the missive came to Anya. She found herself taking greater and greater comfort in the safety of unconsciousness, almost wishing she never had to face the realities of her duties again. Little had changed, however, she had a deadline to respond to the grim missive. It had been three days since its arrival, and no answer came clearly to Anya as of yet. She lay sideways on her bed, looking into the pillow she rested on as if it would bring her answers. She lifted her mattress to find the answer to the missive. June 17th, 798 AS After some thinking, I am going to accept the "Enhancement," even though I know exactly what it is. What am I supposed to do? Retire? Well, yes, that is what I should probably do... But don't I owe it to Rheinland to endure this? Did I not swear to devote my heart and mind into solving Rheinland's problems, and bettering Rheinland by bettering myself? Maybe it will be worth the pain. Maybe it will be something different than what they did to Johann. Besides that, though, don't I owe it to myself? Guido says it's an improvement on the human body. Don't I owe it to myself to make myself better? But, then, what about my mind? If I could put someone else through this, even if he was a criminal, shouldn't I be able to do the same to myself? I know I can live in this prison I keep, no matter what cell block it is, I have no problems with that, but, what I put those men through, I owe it to them, and to myself, to show that I can endure it myself. I will do it. I will do it for Rheinland! And I will do it for me... Imprisonment - Warden - 08-03-2009 Anya ran her forefinger across her unadorned nail as the transport halted abruptly. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply in an attempt to relieve anxiety, though it didn't seem to help much. Looking around the ship, Anya saw only stone-faced men and women in Rheinland Military uniforms, not quite aware of what was to pass after they reached the secret shipyards. Anya couldn't look into their eyes. They all seemed so ignorant, so innocent, compared to her. Anxiety might grace the edges of their eyes, but, not as heavily as if they knew. The transport lurched to a stop a second time, though somewhat leisurely this time. The intercom informed Anya and the other passengers to ready themselves to exit. Almost as if she wanted to rebel against her choice, Anya gripped the armrest to her right, closing her eyes and, for her own sake, wishing she hadn't a conscience. |
