RE: Economy in 5.2+ - Ramke - 11-23-2024

Hi, I am an actual miner.

I like the NuMining changes a lot and they are genuinely fun, promote cooperation and teamwork.

I don't have many qualms about the economy, but I would really enjoy alternative sources to get some commodities, such as Xeno Relics, if the player economy is completely dried out and there's no miners. Relics for example, can only be obtained by mining in a freighter, and nobody mines them. A lot of player economy metals can be obtained for a ridiculously expensive price at their end sell points, but not that one.

This makes sourcing them actual ass. I would love to pay the convenience price and just get them instead of mining them 600 units at a time on an alt character and give it to a friend, because the POBs have resell limits exorbitantly high so you'll never get to take them if you sell them on a POB.

Platinum in numining is unviable if you can't export to Gallia, which almost none of the factions that can mine it can do.

Could you explain the platinum part?

@Enko

Could you explain to our gamers why it was "necessary" to change the ore extraction ?
I only had bad comments about this.

Never seen bad comments about it but from three people on the forums. Maybe it'd be a good idea to have a separate thread about the mining though since that is not entirely affecting the economy. It kind of does by extending mining time and thus increasing price but that's it.

Times change, the insane mark of the old mining system was never intended to be ran for mining as it is on discovery, it was literally an activity to fill up freighters. This system would get slammed if it was released in games today.

Old mining causes problems with so many people being put off mining because of how RSI inducing it is, some people will just flat out be unable to do it for very long. There is a rather large population of people who enjoy it and the gameplay variance it has, coupled with that our target is to have people spending longer times mining rather than hauling it home and the prospect of making longer mining times on old mining is horrid.

Only really a few people hate it and don't want to touch it, but luckily there are still plenty of old mining bits around.

You don't need to change a good thing from the past. We were happy before, but not now. Why change that with the NU , who asked for this ? Surely not us.
The game was balanced already before, it does not need this.

Sorry but we can't just freeze development for a handful of people who want to keep something that is basically archaic at this point.

Of the four factions that can mine Platinum, two of them are explicitly barred from entering Gallia, and the other two aren't exactly welcome. Which means you simply end up with people flying platinum on neutral ships which isn't exactly conducive to faction activity.

Sure but why is that an issue with selling Plat? It's basically one of the best routes right now disregarding Gallia, and maybe even Gallia is a self grief too.

Indeed, but not gold and platinum. Old school miners see it as necessary to provide them with the resources to continue in the game. Not a lot of guys like the mining for the purpose of mining, only to advance in the game.
