First, I love how you interact with the community about changes happening. I think this is one of the signs of a successful developer. Thank you for all your time and effort on this Mod, @Antonio. Concerning the Freelancer HD, I love it and would like to see that implemented on all the mod systems, so I voted yes yes yes! Smile - I understand that it might cause some issues with low-end PCs or the internet, maybe, but I think that it can be added like the Bloom effect, so if someone wants to disable it, then hit for example "Shift+F11" or something like that Wink

I use several graphics packs created by some amazing freelancer players. Some of them are from the DiscoveryGC community as well. The Ultimate Graphics pack, The Nebula Graphics Mod, The Real Backgrounds and Stars Graphics pack, and the Transparent Hud Mod. I would like to see those graphics packs installed in the Discovery Mod one day.

No and Darkwind said why, even despite he said yes. I started to play in 4.85, on a win Xp very low quality pc, and was a blast, big battles and no problem at all. now .. well now i don't play because of the latest patch, but before the patch, even new jumpholes made this old pc, and it is way better the one that had the winXp, go slow, battles with few players could turn into a lag fest! honetly if players can add after this packs, so it should be that way. make a bacis option for all players, and for those players that can and wish, a seperate pack

RE: Community Input: Freelancer HD Starspheres - Tenshi Kuonji - 12-13-2024

Some systems, like Rheinland, Gallia and Omicrons, everything else personally don't care much, but for those HD Textures could fit well, rheinland nebulas on starsphere looks pretty weird while on HD are more "fitted" for it, but mainly i would like to see Starspheres to where the Sirius Map is showing the tint or being relocated to follow thematic

Kappa is located in map on a non-greenish zone
Iota should be dark green not light blue
Kyushu should be black-ish colored starsphere, but is blue at all
And with all in all, i belive there is still way to improve even devs told that is how would be done, but it seems weird as how Tau-29 has a tint of being somewhat on Orkney location (on navmap) but is located just in the middle of the Tau-sector which should be white nebulas somewhere and colored nicely, still it could be seen as "Vanilla System" ... but there are some unlogics and systems were nicely were misteriously "lost" all his assets available and that is sad ...

boy you better send me links to those mods because that looks nutty

also yeah sure, why not add it as an installation option? Crossfire has had customizations like that for a long time...

speaking of which I just copy the crossfire starspheres to disco because I'm a goofball

RE: Community Input: Freelancer HD Starspheres - Lythrilux - 12-13-2024

I would love these, but my biggest gripe with Disco is how effects in big fights tank FPS force me to turn everything to low even though I have a solid GPU. I would be concerned how much this could affect that.

If these work without you getting kicked I would appreciate it if you could share the pack.

You can also try applying AA to make the game even prettier.

To me it looks like some systems look better, some look worse. The greens, blues, and some of the reds are really nice looking with it, but the oranges and yellows just look kinda weird. I would be for adding this into the game, but some systems (Omega 41 being the most obvious example) would need to have their looks adjusted to make it the best it can be, or it feels like sensory overload lol

That looks reaaallly really sweet. I would be all for having something like this for the graphics in discoveries

RE: Community Input: Freelancer HD Starspheres - Chronicron - 12-13-2024

It's good and all, but apart from aforementioned performance concerns, you'll also be going down the route of stylistic inconsistency, because I imagine that non-vanilla starspheres won't be receiving this sort of visual treatment.

RE: Community Input: Freelancer HD Starspheres - Xenon - 12-13-2024

@Ruairi and @Lythrilux ,

I have most of those packs on my PC and I no longer know a link for them
I can send them to whoever wants them and even help install them too.
Also, they are all legal and work with DisoveryGC rules.
My discord is Xenoned

RE: Community Input: Freelancer HD Starspheres - Ramke - 12-13-2024

I already use this pack and love it, so it doesn't affect me personally.

RE: Community Input: Freelancer HD Starspheres - Sombs - 12-13-2024

I'd strongly prefer to keep these things optional. We can easily advertise using them instead of forcing them onto people. I'm still sad we added the overly busy starsphere_dsy_starfield.cmp to all systems, which looks cool on the first look but takes away a lot from the actual starspheres. Liberty doesn't look like it's in the center of a dark matter cluster anymore since you can see stars in every direction, making it look like the dark matter storms are actually just little gas fields in the far distance.

Another big issue I have with the HD stuff is that they really rub in those repeating patterns, especially if you look at the Walker, the Edge and the smog horizon line of Bretonia. And whatever the hell is going on in Omega-41, where the asteroid belt got replaced by a ring of... something. The vanilla starspheres are painfully accurate with what they display, and those HD ones stray away from that.

Last but not least, the overly detailed nebulae in the starsphere cause the actual reachable nebulae clouds to no longer blend in with the background, unless you want to change the puff textures in all txm files to adjust it. To me personally, that's a lot more of a downgrade. The only acceptable compromise to me would be custom adjustments for every single starsphere in the game to be a 100% upgrade without side effects, which is a colossal task and requires many hours working on textures and the 3d meshes of the starspheres. Otherwise, I have to vote with a firm no.
