RE: Players Warned: @Michela Calliente ; @Space Port Federation - Space Port Federation - 01-13-2025

greetings to the admins,

Considering the warning I have received there is a few things i would like to be clarified,

1. You quoted that Rule 1.0 was broken, Saying that won't the factions who check the player list and log just to attack the operations of specific factions considered breaking the rule 1.0 Quoted "Don't be a dick. It's a game, try to keep it fun for everyone playing it. Behavior that falls within the technical letter of the rules but not the spirit won't be tolerated."

2. As you said the RP done with the cloak is inadmissible, so is it to my understanding that any RP or reports or findings done Previously or that will be done in future with any form of cloak will be considered Inadmissible as well.

3. Incase Point Number 2 Validates, the factions whose roleplay are completely based out of espionage and intel gathering (which includes using cloaks in Hostile Territory) can be considered a hoax as well?

Kindly Clarify this Points so that there is no confusion for me.
Thank you

While it might not be conducive to purely organic interactions, the playerlist is an invaluable tool for finding people to play with as opposed to having players sit alone in empty systems. If players are abusing the playerlist to harrass specific people, that is a sanctionable offense. We also operate on the basis that two wrongs do not make a right, and doing something wrong because others might be doing something else that is wrong does not make anything less wrong.

We said nothing of the sort - we determined that your action of being in a location that your character should have no knowledge of or ability to navigate to (metagaming), for the express purpose of screenshotting players that had no idea that they were in an interaction with other players, in order to force consequences on them in the form of breaking cover which they have done everything they could have possibly done to maintain (powergaming) to be problematic.

The rule against acting on knowledge or capabilities that your character does not possess (metagaming) and attempting to force significant consequences on other player characters in a way that they have had no ability to avoid (powergaming) are explicitly forbidden. The how (cloaking, stalking, screenshotting, and evidence spreading) are not so relevant to this situation, as you are free to use cloaks and communitcate with people as you would like so long as it does not involve metagaming or powergaming - in the same way that you are not allowed to murder - and the law doesn't really discriminate between deliberately beating someone to death with a book and then doing a little dance over the body, as opposed to stabbing someone to death with a scale model of the Eiffel tower and then reinacting your favorite movie scenes with the corpse - that particular law doesn't forbid books, dancing, the french, or movies.

You bring up a good point about the problem with powergaming, metagaming, and intelligence factions - it's hard to spy when spying on other people often involves "discovering" or using information that normally shouldn't be available to you, and could absolutely result in powergaming and ruining other factions. I happen to be the head of an intelligence faction, and I've had to have a hard think about what we can and can't do - and the short answer is, get consent. Discovery is a roleplaying server and we play for the interactions - people who are genuinely interested in telling stories have often been completely fine with the idea of collaborating and negotiating disadvantages to themselves in return for fun.

With regards to using cloaks in hostile territory - you can do whatever you want with cloaks so long as you don't break the rules - the ones we're talking about currently being trying to force serious roleplay consequences on another player in a way that gave them no play to roleplay out of it, and/or using information that your character does not have access to.
