The Death of Dimi McEwan - Ophiuchi - 06-20-2009 Moira Kentigearna shot back another of the Irish, swayed a bit, wiped her mouth on her sleeve, and proceeded to scale the Igisstree-planked table she had just set her empty glass upon. She immediately lost her balance and fell into the arms of two nearby NLH wingmen. Laughing, the two pilots virtually heaved her upon the table, and firmly gripped her until she found equilibrium, of sorts. "Hearken Ye!!" As the crowd curiously turned towards Moira, she raised her arms to the sides, until they seemed to embrace the room. "This is the end of it then, lads 'n lasses!" Moira swayed, then leaned and stretched out a hand to Red Sunset, her new Chief. After a moment, she straigtened, and held out a hand containing two tarnished, embossed, alloy-colored discs. "These be the coins we'd be placin' on the eyes o' the McEwan, ere we sealed 'is coffin! "That is, if we had a bleedin' McEwan, and a bleedin' coffin!" A strident laughter, and cheers, rippled through the drunken, bleary gatherers. Moira then pointed to an object on the next table, a 30 centimeter gunboat missile warhead, side panel and payload removed. "Well this be Dimi McEwan's coffin!" She reached down and placed the two ancient Terran coins inside the warhead. "So ye Gaians, ye Hope Fiends, ye raggedy Dogs! Bring forth yer tributes, and yer momentos, and gifts, and yer hankies, soggy and be-snotted from yer tears o' farewell. Place 'em inside, fer Dimi's final ride! "There is a loch on Gaia. It's named fer Dimi's wife, Erin, also deceased. At 2200 Sirian tomorrow, "Erin Loch" will be just breachin' the dawn, my fellows! "We will lift from Islay, bearin' all of Dimi McEwan we have in this little warhead, and bear it proudly to the dark side of Planet Gaia! "And when pink 'n silver sheen starts t' light up that loch from the risin' of the Sun, we will launch our memories o' Dimi towards that loch. "Then Erin 'n the McEwan will be joined again at last!" Slowly, the crowd began to approach the open warhead. Objects were placed inside. A holocube.. a uniform badge, a carved ivory dragon from Kusari, an Amulet, a battered tartan beret.. Lord knew the Clan.. a bleedin' sandwich! And not a few soggy handkerchiefs. The Death of Dimi McEwan - Col_Lodden - 06-20-2009 In sadness and shared grief, Red threw an arm round Moira's shoulder. "Shed yer tears, darlin' it's okay...he'll be be leaving us messages in the afterlife....". Holding her close, trying to comfort, watching as the mourners lined up to pay tribute. Genuine grief and love of a lost one shone through with everyone that approached the Rememberance Vessel, many left small gifts, personal attractions, shared objects of experience. Others touched the vessel and whispered their lasting messages to be carried into space with a few words of farewell. Red eventually whispered ..."Moira, you were Dimi's closest friend, y'a think you could launch his last pod?" The Death of Dimi McEwan - Ophiuchi - 06-20-2009 Moira stood tall, watching her brothers and sisters in Gaia slowly moving past the missile warhead, treating it as if it were the very resting place of Damien Marburg McEwan. She made no effort to staunch or wipe away the tears streaming down her freckled face. She suddenly turned to Red, and with both arms, first shoved him forcefully in the chest, then threw her arms around his neck. "Red, ye bastich, I'd have yer bleedin' yarbles hangin' from me cockpit if'n ye gave the task to aught else! "Now, have that warhead mounted and aboard the Kentigearna when all our mates have added their tributes. "I'm a bit shakey on me feet, not havin' slept nor taken more 'n alcoholic succor fer two bleedin' days. Help me find me quarters, Red. Tonight will be a sad but proud moment in Gaian history, me friend." With arms still intertwined, Red and Moira began a slow, staggering journey to the residential section of Level 66. ((Again, friends 'n fellow Gaians, 2200 SMT tonight, Islay. Attend, n' pay yer last respects. Moira.)) The Death of Dimi McEwan - DeathsOverture - 06-20-2009 Ariana watched on as everyone filled the warhead with their personal belongings as a tribute to Dimi. She reached behind her neck and unhooked her locket necklace, a very personal keepsake that had belonged to her mother. Inside the locket was an image of her mother and an image father on opposite sides, but faced to each other when the locket was closed. Ariana knew it was time to put the past behind her. She stood up and walked slowly towards the open warhead. She grasped her mother's necklace for one last time. She closed her eyes and whispered a prayer. "I offer this locket, which symbolizes all of my past memories and grief. I wish to be relieved of their weight, so I can better serve your people. Oh Dimi, you were a true saint in the eyes of many. I have faith that you finally found peace in the netherworld." She opened her eyes and carefully placed her necklace inside the warhead. She stepped aside and gave a warm embrace to Moira, who was the closest to Dimi of everyone. The Death of Dimi McEwan - Bjorn - 06-20-2009 CommID: Daniel O'Shay To: Islay Subject: To good man to who we owe so much Greetings fellow Gaians. I know we never cared much about eachothers cause and were set back by some odd alliances, but as you know, McEwan has put us more together than any other. He was maybe one of best people ive ever known in my life. This news are taken with great sadness for Molly Republic and we decided that a memorial plate, made out of pure Dublin gold will be mounted in Dublin pub. We also decided to send you second golden plate to put in 66th level in his memory. We hope our pact will remain strong in its idea and act. Best regards, Daniel O'Shay, Consul of Molly Republic. The Death of Dimi McEwan - Doc Holliday - 06-21-2009 Comm ID: [TAZ]Doc Holliday To: Islay Subject: Mr. Dimi McEwan When I read the things about Mr. McEwan that I'm reading and hear the words spoken of him that I heard today, I realized then that he was a friend I never had the privilege of meeting. It was an honor to be at his service today. When I shared a drink in his honor on Islay, I had a few good laughs about the man he was based on the many folk I spoke with. I'm just sorry I never knew the man personally. It was an honor to represent The Autonomous Zoners today at his service and fire my guns in his honor. May his memory live on.
