Equipment conventions - pchwang - 01-10-2007 I said ID and equiment(friendly factions) should match for all. ID should not match faction...That would limit ship diversity even more... And =BSG= does not need stories to explain weapons. When in Sirius, act like how people that live in Sirius would do in such a way that promotes an action. Equipment conventions - Qunitinius~Verginix - 01-10-2007 Lol Nice Onca, I like that. But I think that The equipment doesnt matter as much as the Ship when It comes to RP choices. I voted that it should match your reputations, but for ships, if they are not part of your ID allowed ships, then write a damn good story explaining yourself. Storys are fun to write and they make your RP better for all to understand. Verginix Out Equipment conventions - Quigs - 01-10-2007 I think it makes sense for the ship to match the ID. Weapons are a real honour system kinda thing. You obviously need good faction to buy strong guns (read- only buy friendly), but for unfriendly guns I think you should be able to take a page out of the Necromonger's book and keep what you kill. Creampuff Equipment conventions - Nightfall - 01-10-2007 Yeah, well, I admit my suggestions are 'a little restrictive', honestly I don't have anything about looting and stuff, even the friendly/allied technology exchange, it all came out of protest because most people were using the 'most uber' thing they could so I changed the stuff I use just to prove that isn't necessary to have a pair of shieldbusters and 'the best ship out there' to win. I'm known to beat a few Ravenclaws (4 Tizona, 4 codenames or whatever you can think of) in a Nephthys (4 Order weapons, 2 codenames), true, I died a lot too in the same Nephthys against the same Ravenclaws. As long as you fly more fighters, you get to know their weaknesses and their strong points, learn to use them to your advantage, also, change the style you fight to something your opponent can't match. If the ships/weapons are balanced and there's not much lag it comes down to the pilot. I'm all for RP a story how did you get that ship you fly and the weapons you got mounted and there wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't everybody and his dog have the same ship and same loadout. But RP is what we lack lately, when was the last time someone started a RP story that was ongoing and open for everyone to post? And again, when was it the last time someone wasn't powerplaying? I for one, would like to see a lot of people here starting a story how did they get to the ships they are flying and the weapons they have. Equipment conventions - OrrinDymas - 01-10-2007 Will we not then have 200 stories about how someone snuck into Corsair space and bought the weapons on the black black Corsair market. Or 200 former Corsairs gone rogue. Nightfall, be honest, don't you feel people are changing their stories/RP to fit their ships and weapons when they should be changing their ships and weapons to fit their stories/RP? There are alot of ships being captured from militaries, former Reinland military officers in bombers, or humans flying around in Nomad ships wondering why they are constantly shot at. If you are creative enough you can come up with a story for anything. However stories invented with the sole purpose of justifying your favorite ship or gun in an otherwise inapropriate role leaves you with a story that no one will want to read. One that has a patina of the contrived about it-insincere, like a cookie cutter Hollywood sequel that everyone groans at when they see it ruin their favorite book. I suppose we should feel lucky that these players are at least making the effort to role play. And I know many very good role players who simply refuse to use more appropriate ships because they hate to lose-BSG is guilty of this to some extent as well (our talarka cruisers and taidan bombers) so I understand this feeling. Freelancer is a skill intensive game and demands a player to practice in order to win battles. Not everyone has the patience or time to develop more than one fighting style. So we have to make a choice, will we figuratively die for our RP? Or will we maim our RP to avoid figuratively dieing? Equipment conventions - McNeo - 01-10-2007 Wise words... I voted for number 2 on all three poles. However, for the sso| i keep the ships resticted to BH only but allow any weapons. I figure that the Bounty Hunters have good ships and they kill alot of bad guys who drop loot so why not. But i also think that it would be hard to implement a stricter roleplay with weapons as we would probably get even less recruits than we already do:P. 1 or 2 out of the half dozen that we tried to recruit stayed..... I must admit that when i came on to the server for the first time i used to powerplay with the best guns, the best sheild etc etc. Even now if you go for anything less you stand a worse chance of surviving against somone who does powerplay, so then that person powerplays and then the next person does...it forms a circle that keeps going until eventally most powerplay. I still do to a certain extent. However, i think exceptions need to be made for the Inferno's, Mortars and Battlerazors unless lawful versions of those guns are produced..... my thinkings... Equipment conventions - romer - 01-10-2007 I mostly have to say choice 2 down the line. I find it simplifies things for my tastes. Sorry to say, but I haven't the creativity or the gift of story-telling enough to find an original way to put someone in a ship they couldn't otherwise buy. Now, I will admit, my weps tend to stray a bit. I like to think it's not for powergaming, never really been into that. I just like to spread the wealth so to speak. If I loot something good...I'll use it. Remember, there are a few shipwrecks out there with Coladas on them.:D I do however, try to keep the ships right. Even on my ELF chars, who seem to be floating from flock to flock...and therefore from ship to ship. Equipment conventions - Nightfall - 01-10-2007 Wise words Orrin, that's why I'm relatively OK with guns. But the ships, come on, really too many rheinland bombers out there and not only those. Not to mention the 'I'm a freelancer, I can have any ship and weapons' excuse, if you're so neutral, no one would sell it to you. As for shieldbusters... well, the Debilitator line works fine, even better in combo with some weapons. RP stories... honestly, a special ship should be something special and let someone who has the possibility to make such a story (a sensible one, original to some extent) have the ship, I don't have anything against that. I'll give you an example, I had an Osiris - The Ampoliros. It's RPd all over a few RP stories how I found the wreck of an Osiris in the Unknown and restaurated it assuming that it was the original - Orillion's Osiris and everything. When the Outcast Dreadnought appeared, playing as a real Outcast, I switched ships. As for the skill... most of it is mystified. It's not so hard as soon as you figure out how do more ships handle and get used a little to the way they handle. True, some time to practice is needed. Equipment conventions - Qunitinius~Verginix - 01-10-2007 I think all of you guys have Some good Ideas, btu I have to agree with NIghtfall. Its not hard to make a decent original RP story about your ship, and how a neutral person got that cruiser from the Rheinland millitary...... Also, Its alot hard to restrict weapons, because I have noticed that for example, the Liberty class 9 guns are sold on Rochester base, andA few Liberty Battleships. So I don't think weapons should be restricted as much as ships if at all. Its up to the player to chose their weapons wisely for their RP choices and ship. Verginix out Equipment conventions - marauder - 01-10-2007 Yeah, which means you have to trust the player(s) not be a 'win-at-all-cost-' [censored]. Sorry, but my confidence in new players be able to do that on their own without rules etc is pretty much non-existant. If I see a new player RPing with weapons, ship, ID and tag, I'll help them out, talk to them, give them hints etc. Otherwise I ignore them, especially the ones who log in, launch and immediately demand to know the best, quickest, most profitable trade route. As for the ones who log on, then bitch and moan about the magellan JG being locked, well, no comment. |
