The US server had a working prototype for a while, don't know where it is now...

I'd even go a step farther. How's about a FLHook command called, say, /setrep $faction, that places people in the MkI fighter of the chosen faction, empties their cargo hold, teleports him to his home base and reps them according to what they have chosen (the fighter so the command will not be abused and also to avoid a bit of trading)?

For example, /setrep libertyrogues would teleport you to Buffalo and give you a Rogue ID/IFF and a Bloodhound (or is it the Greyhound? Dunno). It would save people from repfixing, something that unlike trading isn't just a chore, but also contributes absolutely nothing to server RP.

Always vote Yes & its quite possible in FLHook.

Our core Admin team seems to be very respectful of other mod's ideas, but there is growing consensus for this idea over the last year & I hope its adopted.

There used to be a starting location option, it caused a bug that prevented you from creating new charachters. The starting location options were scrapped in the .85 betas.

Also, Discovery of Discovery has a /restart function, whereby if you are under level 10, you are transported to your chosen faction HQ (manhattan, crete, dur shurrikun etc.), and placed in a Mk 1 fighter (patriot, legionaire, nomad morph etc.) plus guns, mines etc. (all low level) and given the appropriate faction tag, while having your cash set to 8500 credits.

This seems like a reasonable idea, however, I vote that the guard factions remain neutral even when selecting the faction you wish to be apart of.

As Igiss said a definite, clear no less than 1 month ago... I'm voting no.

I'm adding my verbal weight to this lopsided poll that shows only the vote of the forum people and only those who are interested enough to click on it....
  • Yes. It's a good idea.
  • Yes. We should have it as those who know about their faction can start straight away.
  • Yes. Those who don't need it / are newbs, should have the option to also start if they wish, in this way.
  • Yes. It does not make logical sense for every character to start from Pennsylvania, especially when you are an enemy of Liberty.
  • Yes. The local low level MKI light fighters starting point idea addresses all concerns of who/how to survive in those spaces.
  • Yes. Other server have had this capability for a long time. That's because this is a script worth having. This is not copying other servers stuff. This is logical common sense for a character that does not belong in Liberty.
  • Yes. It's not something that can easily be abused, any more than starting a new character can. Effectively this is a writing "new character" series of clicks. Calls of abuse in this way do not make any sense really.
  • Yes because this server totes itself as an Role Play server, but enemies of Liberty ALWAYS start out "OORP". Awesome. New players are forced to go "OORP" from day one. Nice. Great example there.
  • Yes. Setting up need not be excruciating OORP like it currently is. Yes I know you can use bribes and things but that's not the point. Many new people AND "veteren" players don't know where to find brides. The "staying in and discovering all about your faction for a long time until you actually learn about your faction" is a very weak argument against having the starting script.
I think you'll find in actuality, that players go and grind for however long it takes to get their Guard Reps, without reading much about their intended faction. The "staying in until learned" viewpoint refuses to acknowledge the reality of game mechanics, and how people CAN LEGITIMATELY GET any ship, without reading one single thing about it, or the faction.
  • Yes on a related note: One way jumpholes ARE possible.
  • Yes on a related note: The scripting is not a problem. Many different solutions to the alternate starting locations have already been implemented.
  • Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

If there's a way to fix the problems it has, do it. Either being another method of choosing the spawn or whatever, I would like to see it happen.
