Thats why you have to drop out of the game, its part of it of it. While you are sitting there calculating, some
others may actually want to be flyng. Just sort of respectful now, as the server has been regularly filling to
capacity. If you want to 'calculate', window the game ... or lose your slot.

Yea. Server has been full lately.

In the admin forums, we have been discussing about increasing the server's performance to, at least, avoid lag when many players are on. All that while investing no money, hence, the box will be soon overclocked to provide more processing power for the flserver...
That is, if all goes well..

I read, understood and agree...
There might be enough players unable to connect, because the max number of players
is reached... shame, if some players still sit and don't play.

Ya know, I've heard of connecting 2 separate computers together over the Internet, and it functions as a dual-core system. One computer presides over the other, and it uses its processing power. That might help if we could connect the server to another box, it would enhance server speed.

Also, (laugh at me, I know) on Vista, you can put in a jump drive into a USB port, and the computer uses it as RAM. So on my 512MB comp, I got a 4GB jump drive, and it speeds up my computer massively. I know there's a 3rd party program to do it, just forgot the name right now.

You do know thats more RAM than you'll ever need, right?

But I don't think the original idea will work.. Of course, I'm not the server whiz here, I'm content to just be a modder. \o/

Dab, if I'm running an Internet browser, a game of Minesweeper, a word document, installing a game, with Skype, Xfire, and Discovery open, I'm going to need the RAM.:P

Processing over network is not that simple. The application needs to be designed to work like that. If not, it won't make a big difference.

ADMIN NOTICE: BASE/CHAR-SELECT MENU IDLING - BestFlyerHere - 05-30-2007

Well, what about the jumpdrive thing? I remember the RAM on the server was 1 GB, and the flash drive RAM was recommended 3+ times system RAM for maximum performance boost, so get a 4GB flash drive? They're like 100 bucks, 50 on eBay. That's not a bad idea, really.

Like no one will ever need more than 512k of memory...

Anyway, using a usb/thumb/jumpdrive for ram is a horrible idea. bandwidth on a usb2.0 drive is about 480mbps, (The ram on my computer works at 8.3 gbps)

ramseektime is lower(read faster) than a normal page, but also much higher(slower) than standard ram.

read/write speeds are quite slow, not to mention most flash memory wears our rather quickly.

All that said there is no reason why you cannot do that on any other operating system besides vista if you really wanted to:
xp: system->performance->advanced->virtualmemory->add a pagefile to your thumbdrive
vista: probably some thumbdrive detected wanna make it a swapspace cancel/allow
linux: format as a swap filesystem, mount optionally add to fstab)

its possible but there is no incentive to, even though the though is still fairly new.
