Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Zyreal - 05-27-2007 Yeah, and bombers usually have mounted machine guns and such, it was actually pretty easy to modify a standard bi-plane to carry a torpedo...but at the very least, isn't that what all our heavy, very heavy, and super heavy fighters are? I mean, they have a mounted torpedo, and they're a bit slower because of it... I mean, technically, the "bombers" we have are super bombers... Although I kinda agree with you a bit, take away VHF and SHF's torp slots, and make the changes I proposed to bombers earlier, and turn the gunboat into a space submarine, and make cruisers more anti-fighter(although having the ability to damage BS's a bit. Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Craines - 05-27-2007 Those aren't the fighters I'm talking about... But meh, matters not. Continue to converse! Don't let me stop you! Which, in retrospect, I couldn't do if I tried. Oh well. Harley Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Dab - 05-27-2007 Harley, your forgetting that we are saying VHFs can take BSs down if grouped. I've said NOTHING of Light Fighters. VHFs are the reincarnation of the bombers of WWII. While the LFs were the reincarnation of the Japanese Zeros and the American Mustangs. The FL bombers would resemble the High-Level (High-Altitude) Bombers. Such one example is the High-Level bomber that dropped the SINGLE bomb that destroyed one of the USA Fleet's Dreadnaughts. Remember, that was a 27,500 ton, multi-hundred meter, metal, Dreadnaught. The bomb jumped it a dozen feet in the air, then blew it into two pieces, before if fell back down into the water.. A single bomber, with a single bomb. Blew the **** out of one of the biggest, heaviest, most powerful ships in the world at its time. Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Craines - 05-27-2007 It didn't have it's class 10 shield equipped. Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Dab - 05-27-2007 Okay, so if it had a level 10 shield.. That would mean, three times the amount of WWII bombers could take it out. Three times the amount of VHF could take it out. Meaning, three VHFs. Thanks for making my case Harley. The shield is the only thing stopping a single ship from just torping it to death. Because of the shield, you need roughly three times as much firepower as a single VHF. Since thats enough to keep the shield steadily dropping. The BS can only fire at one target. Two if it knows a trick. Eventually that shield goes down, and until its up again, its extremely vulnerable, even to ONE VHF with a torp. Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Craines - 05-27-2007 Well, assuming that it can only move on a 2D plane. And I never said anything concerning torpedoes. All I said was that a single fighter cannot kill a battleship. You yourself just said you'd need at least 3. Ergo, we're both correct. See? Everyone wins! Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Eppy - 06-01-2007 Question of off-topicness (because I like the system the way it is)- What was the 'Balance Issue' with DBoy's mod? What did it do to make Igiss hate it so much and cause my happy Bounty Hunter Battleship bite the dust and start bouncing around Asteroid fields again? Fixing the Battleship problem and overall balance - Panzer - 06-01-2007 Well, The Bismarck didn't get killed by swordfish biplanes alone. There were numerous other units, pounding the German battleship while she was without a rudder and running in circles. In my op, bombers in FL don't actually resemble their namesakes. They have quite good dogfighting abilities and frankly, fighters often have quite a hard time taking one out. Imo, the bomber's anti-fighter arsenal should be nerfed. Perhaps just to turrets (look at the B-17 or Lancaster), all but 1 or 2 firing forward. Others to the sides or rear. Then, the anti-cap arsenal should be upgraded. 1 more torped o mount would do. One more thing, that might be nice would be a torpedo, like on Starlancer. Big, powerful, but slow and possible to shoot down. (sigh) The sunslayer could be odified to fulfill ths task and get useful again. Not the ammo-less nova. Also, the VHFs don't resemble WW2 bombers that much. Might be just me. The Loire-Olivier, Fairley Battle, Junkers 87 and IL 2... They had VERY little dogfighting abilities. Stukas were soaring down in flames one after another during the Battle of Britain. VHFs in FL look more like multirole fighters to me. Good at dogfighting, but just in case needed, they can mount a bomb under the fuselage. While their primary goal is to keep the skies clean. And here I return to an old (relatively) topic, where it has been suggested, that battleships should be extremely rare and extremely powerful. Extremely rare, by increasing the price multiple times and possibly restricting he access to them. Extremely powerful - make their shields imune to fighter weapons. only specialized anti-cap weaponry would be able to pierce it. Weaponry, like the mentioned "uber" torppedos |
