Few questions... - McNeo - 07-07-2007

I know what you mean mate, seems a bit unfair when a lawful battleship spawns right next to you after the trader docks (happened to me lately) but you have to deal with it.

To be honest, if a destroyer/cruiser could pirate, then it would give traders a reason to hire escorts, but it would become way to easy to pirate. A gunboat, while it may not have a chance against a battleship, is more than enough to pirate any trader. A fighter is a bit weak, especially against a CT, but thats what a CT is for. Scareing off the odd pirate fighter.

Also, what are you talking about when you say a bomber has a hard time? With the right loadout, any bomber can take out a trader with ease. If you hunt in packs with bombers, then you would scare away the larger caps that the lawfuls use too. A gunboat shield shouldn't be used by traders anyway, but a proper bomber loadout will make mincemeat of it anyway. It takes down battleship shields down quickly enough on its own...

If you want me too, i'll PM you a good pirate bomber loadout. (sorry if that sounds patronising:$)

When i was a trader in a transport / freighter ship i was told a gunboat shield is allowed.

I mean, if a trader is en route jumping through trade lanes, a bomber will have difficultie catching him up and laying into him. specially when a trader can divert real fast and dock with the nearest planet. My container transporter dosnt even get cruise disrupted so it IS hard for a bomber on his own to STOP a trader. In my trade account I find it real easy to escape pirates considering i have a trade lane or a station to dock with within 5k.

So the question remains, what can I do in my outcast destroyer? Hard to belive that pirates have lot more rules to obey than legitimate people, after all, the only reason people choose to be a pirate is NOT to follow rules.

The above comment is very sensible. If you allow cruisers to attack traders, traders will be forced to pay for escorts. Thus the game will balance out, with traders earning a little less, and fighters earning a little more, and thats what this game also needs. Also it would be a better role play scenario. Right now in my trade char, when people ask me if i need an escort, i say no. why do i need an escort? things can can kill me in a few shots arnt allowed to attack me, and little pirates cant do enough damage before I dock.

Right now discovery its all about trading on your own because its the safest proffesion, pays like 100x more than fighting and lots of rules to prevent baddies from killing you. So why do we have guns and shields?

Well since you can damage them as much as you like, but not kill them, before asking for tax.

You could damage them severely, use up their batts and bots, in your OC destroyer, making them easier prey for the little guys further along the route.

And even though the trader knows you cant kill them, Im sure they dont want to have to suffer the embarrassment of being brought to the point of desctruction while the destroyer flies away laughing.

The problem is, if the cruiser is loaded out for fighter escort, with six missile turrets, the fighters are already dead. The missile spam is still pretty well unbeatable. It's as balanced as it'll ever get right now; asking for more will only bring trouble. If I take my BS, park it outside of NL and charge every fool I see five million credits, I'll be able to pay for a bigger battleship by the end of the day.

New Question: Could someone explain the Dock protection setup, I get it protected during transition scripted scenes, but does it have a continued effect, say after you've jumped out of a JH?

No.
