Don't freak out because of the server. If it has to fail, it will no matter what we do. It's murphy's law. And go sleep well. Don't let it f**k up your real life.
As the server is on a basement, noise isn't a concern. In fact, we could just put a 220V fan tunneled to the heatsink... Crude, but really cheap.
No, i'm not talking about a room fan, but from a heavy duty fan used to cool down machinery. I think its 150-200mm in diameter, and moves a lot of air. It can fit inside the rack, and take air from the outside.
OK, no UPS, you're did beat me with arguments. I'll do something to back up the data to another PC every day, so we don't loose anything vital.
About the huge fan, I think we should attach something more professional to the CPU if we want to try 3.5GHz, but attaching a big fan on the top of the server rack is not a bad idea and it would be cheap. Actually even without the fan the air inside the rack circulates quite well as there are 2 holes in it - one at the top and another one at the bottom, so it works like a chimney, as the warm air goes out at the top and the cold air is sucked from the bottom. And we are lucky our server is right next to the bootom hole...:)

I do make a backup from time to time. Last one was made on July the 7th.
Said backup is stored on my external backup HDD, so it is safe.

If you want to try 3.5 GHz, then you are going to need a ridiculous air cooler (such as the massive fan) coupled with the Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro (which i use) or the Zalman CNPS9700LED to make the chip stable at that speed.
Oh, and if you do buy a new heat sink, please take off the thermal pad straight away. My E6600 processor was idling at 45 degrees C with a 3GHz speed and 1.275V when i didn't take off the thermal pad. Now it idles at 42 degrees C with a 3.375GHz speed at 1.45V with the new thermal paste properly added on. You do need a separate tube of thermal paste for that though, and only apply very little to make the coat as thin as possible.
But i don't even know what a UPS is...:mellow:. Is it a PSU....:sleep:

UPS == Uninterruptable Power Supply --> what Korrd said.
Actually most UPS solutions are only designed to keep the box running for a few minutes, to get through brownouts or to allow for graceful shutdown. They're not designed to keep the shop running for hours until the power comes back on. Not when you have dozens of servers sucking down 500kVA.... that's what a generator is for:D
Course in Majk's case it's moot, as he's not likely to be beside the Disco server 24/7 to shut it down if power goes out.

i have some old UPS's here at my work.... all were in use for 3 servers at a time... if you are able to discuss the terms of import/export... we might be able to work this out ^^ and it will only cost you the price of the import and transport...
The UPS is outfitted with a software tool wich allows you to setup allmost every aspect off a blackout on your powergrid...
Example...
When you have a blackout for less then 5 mins, the server will just keep on running..
When you have a blackout for more then 5 but less then 10 mins, it will kick in powersave modes for every piece of hardware you sellect. (monitor, all USB devices etc. etc...)
When you have a blackout of more then 10 mins... it will automaticly shotdown the entire server...
You can also trigger a .bat file with every time-table you preselect, making it possible to send a global message to the players online via the console.......
think about it....

The case is shocking....If you got somthing a little bigger, then you may find the air will get around the components better and the server will run alot cooler.
They don't cost that much...But honestly...LOL, not that looks are important or anything...but it looks like a POS.
