I suppose; however, trying both configs for quite a long time, I have to say the high-refire one tends to work better ;-)

Destroyers are tough McNeo, in my outcast destroyer I can take down bombers, fighters, other cruisers, gunboats, and i can severely hurt a battleship with my guns. There is no such thing as the destroyer being underpowered. And I flew a Ku Destroyer for the longest time, I never had trouble scoring a kill.

1 mortar

2 infernos

2 Battle Razors

Use the mortar with both weapons groupes, and the rest of your guns

1 Missile

2 order turrets.

With immense damage, low refire guns, you can hit the enemy, then dodge (even letting him out of sight), then hit again.

With a high-refire setup, you will have to keep him in your sights, making you a potential target.
i agree...slow, but powerful weapons are better choice against bigger target...fire one and dodge...that could work great with your ship since it is very agile and small.

Because of its smaller energy and the need for the KU Dest to switch roles between anti-capship and anti-fighter quite constantly, mortars are a bad choice. You'll do a little extra damage, but you'll end up being out of energy 80% of the time.

I've found my loadout I've used on my dest to work very well;

2 Infernos
2 Battlerazors
3 Solaris
2 Destroyer Missiles Turrets

I've been able to defeat a Liberty cruiser and a Raven's Talon alone with this setup, when any other cruiser I would fly would have been defeated (except maybe a Lib Cr of my own if I could hit the other one with my FWD gun).

When using this ship its not about trying to inflict the most damage possible in the shortest amount of time, but trying to take the least amount of damage throughout the entire fight. You can't stand toe-to-toe with ANY of the other cruisers and win except maybe the Bretonian Destroyer. Thats where the agility comes in. It can't outfly gunboats, but it can outfly any of the other cruisers by a small fraction. Your goal is to stay behind the enemy as much as you can. When they try engine killing to turn so you can't stay behind them, you inflict as much damage as you can before they can fire back. Good idea is to hit them with Solaris turrets when they can shoot back, and to dodge as much as possible during that small time. About only 20% of the other cruiser's weapons will hit you, depending on their skill, because the Solaris shake their screen. Also depends on your distance from them.

Continuing like that throughout the fight will let you inflict alot more damage than they do, which is crucial because the KU Dest has the smallest armor rating for any cruiser/dest other than the Talarca. When using this ship, its sometimes best to get enemy fighters first, as they are agile enough to shoot you all the time, whereas the enemy cruisers aren't. You gotta dodge the cruisers and sustain some damage, but target their weapons and blow them off with missile turrets and Solaris. Once the enemy fighters are no longer much of a threat (get most of their weapons, and missiles/mines are not a threat)

When you go to fight the cruisers, don't worry about shooting their guns off, just go for pure damage. Same for gunboats.

When fighting gunboats (Talarca and KU Dest are very good anti-gunboat cruisers) you should be hitting it with infernos and battlerazors from a very short range (Ku Dest can maneuver well enough to stay very close to a GB) and when the GB goes to hit you, use Solaris until its close enough to use battlerazors/infernos on it. There is also the option of using missile turrets to shoot the GB's weapons off (focus on Cerberus weapons) but it won't do much damage, and will take awhile. Don't use if you need the energy to shoot your infernos/battlerazors. Good for when the GB is at a distance.

Also, when dodging, DON'T use up/down strafe, but left/right as the Ku Dest is very slim, but not very short.

Make sure your Infernos/BRs are able to shoot forward, and your missile turrets should shoot forward as well. There is one turret that can't shoot forward if I remember correctly, and that one should be a Solaris turret (can shoot at an angle forward though, just not in the front 45 degrees, might be thinking of Ku GB).

If you DO use a Mortar, which I don't advise, replace the BRs with 1 more Inferno and 1 more Solaris turret.

Hmm, anyone have advice for the BH destroyer, I've been flying one for a while, and can't seem to take many ships out....

McNeo is pretty good with it, I'd suggest you ask him his loadout and use.

veno

im a noob more or less but i think try not to use the missile turrets in the normal way (green status in the lower right window), you can use Q key to launch missiles aswell and depends on the target (for example cap ships), you may not use that (they drain energy too), so you have more energy for light mortars and so on (cap ship weps).

for my limited exp 1 inferno gun only can fire 6 shoots before depleting the energy bar (BH destroyer and huntress and i think most destroyers and normal cruisers too), a light mortar 3 shoots.

right now i have 1 light mortar 1 inferno 2 cerberus 2 nomad and 2 missile turrets in my BH destroyer, using in green status cerberus and nomad guns (and miss with the Q).

and more or less works fine, of course depends on the firing arcs of each destroyer/cruiser.

tanktarget
that weapon array is mostly anti cap dont you have problems with fighters or bombers?

its great to learn from your exp guys..

good luck out there

My destroyer has a pretty basic loadout, which I can't be bothered to change because I am lazy. I am sure there are better out there but here we go:

2 Infernos
2 destroyer missiles
4 Bretonia tertiaries

In this order:

Slot 1: Inferno
Slot 2: Missile
Slot 3: Missile
Slot 4: Inferno
Slot 5-8: Tertiaries

This means that at least one inferno can fire in any direction as well as the missiles. The missiles are crucial to take out fighters, and bombers. I don't use hull killers because the tertiaries usually do an efficient job of that on larger targets, while allowing my power plant to regen so I can use infernos straight away when the shield comes up.

However, I use weapon groups, because I am too lazy to press Q. Also, I find weapon groups more efficient than buttons to do certain things, because they are more versatile.

I haven't come up against as many opponents as I would like in my destroyer, so I haven't fine tuned this load out like I have my Corsair gunboat.

However, it is versatile, and the missiles are a godsend against fighters. Two good fighter pilots can take me out if I am not careful, or if they have a cruise disruptor, as I fly my destroyer aggressively rather than passively and missiles can be taken out by cruise distruptors.

In my opinion, destroyers aren't very good for much. They can't really put up a fight against gunboat pilots who know what they are doing, a single bomber has a good chance at taking one out, and two well flown fighters can also take one out. The only things cruisers can do is take out other ones...which is pretty easy with weapon groups and the BH destroyer, which is slim...

I have to agree with ohmy.

On both my Outcast destroyers i use.

2 infernos

8 outcast basic turrets (do good damage and don't use much energy)

2 mortars (mainly used against allot bigger ships)

-

With this setup i managed to take out another cruiser and bomber at the same time pretty easy (didnt need to use all my BB's)

Ive also taken out lone GB's and fighters very easily with this setup.

-

On my Corsair Gunboats i use,

2 infernos

5 Order

1 BR for ya no? (dosn't really get used though)

-

On my Osiris i use,

2 inferno

8 Order

2 mortars

-

So as you can see i use the same setup on pretty much all the cap ships i fly, it seems to work ok for me.
