Capital turret view turning please.
There is no turning in turret view there. All the turning happens in "Mouse flight".

What is there, is a camera in normal chase view, that moves around a lot when you turn, allowing the player to look more to the sides. Notice that it also makes the turns very sluggish. It is only useful for very slow ships.

Yes. Camera unlock for Mouse Flight I mean.

With this addition, it means that capital ships can now turn in the direction the player is looking at while being able to fire in Mouse Flight. Not a great advantage but a nice addition nonetheless. This makes ships with multiple turrets or wide firing arcs become much more useful than they are now.

Yes plz. But how would you do this. Is it even possible with freelancers' -limited- engine?

It'd be interesting to see what fighters with backward turrets would do. And Bombers...

See the video I posted.

It is somewhat different to the proposed idea of WASD turning in turret view but sufficient and doable with the engine.

Somehow I knew you'll post in this thread Cam.

I really support this idea as shown in that video, it makes caps more useful and it looks damned EPIC

General Movement of Ships - Blodo - 03-15-2010

It is possible, but according to my testing it would need a complete rebalance of all capital ships yet again, as they currently turn far too fast for this "lazy camera" fix to work properly. So what would need to happen is all capital ships would need to be slowed down by a large margin, to the level of Flak 88 and Freeworlds capitals...

Unless Cannon can cook something up that is...

Wow, I had not thought that this topic would continue.

Well, at first:
the pilot does not turn into a 90+ angle from flight direction.

at second:
I'm not sure that the cap ships need to be reworked?

See, all that matters is their movement relative to each others.
The usual tactic against fighters and GB's would not change, for the fighters are by far to manuverable jet. nowdays a cap ship just sits still when attacked by fighter and operates in turret view. it would make no difference if it turned during that time, with it 30+ seconds per turn.

Hm... imagining GB vs GB ... that could be different. yes, I think manuverability will be worth much less than. all that will count than is firepower. You won't be able to move into anotherones back any more.
That could be balanced by adjusting the maximum angle from flight direction.
Maybe one could adjust that angle for every ship different, so that the angle for cap ships is bigger that for fighters, maybe the one for fighters would not be changed at all, so that the enginekill does not get lost.
Maybe we could balance it as well by adjusting that the viewpoint movement in chase view is slower that in turret view. so the cap ships would still use turret view (and GBs enginekill) against fighters.
However, it should not be made possible to turn farther than 90 (or less) from flight direction. In that way we could try to keep our balancing.

Suggestion:
Try it out for a week an let the community decide.

Capitals will need to be slowed down a lot for the camera to work as it should, so they will need a complete rebalance... I already said. It's not as simple as you make it out to be...

The idea shown in the video is amazing, with that, my gunboat would be much more efficient with those -run and steer as long as youve got thruster power- fighters and bombers.
