Good idea.

Interceptor Def: Military. a fighter aircraft with fast-reaction capabilities, used to identify and, if appropriate, engage other aircraft in combat.

With 450 afterburner an arrow could fly right up to the enemy and scan what each one is flying, and then relay that back to allies.

The only problem I see is with shield-running and re-engagement rules issues.

The ugly one!

Yeah, LFs rule...

Arrow civilian interceptor - Panzer - 08-24-2007

Agreed with the thruster thing. As a scout, this ship should be able to get out of trouble as soon as it gets into it.

Arrow civilian interceptor - I_m_rdy - 08-24-2007

The thing with the 450 speed thruster may be nice, but we have to do it in a way that only the Arrow can mount it (maybe make the thruster hardpoint at the equipment dealer invisilbe, I know it's possible) so people don't mount the thruster on other ships, or better, make two thruster hardpoints so the Arrow can gain a max speed of 400 (it's not 450 but we could prevent misuse of the Arrow's speed bonus better).

Arrow civilian interceptor - Stoat - 08-24-2007

Definately. If it's not got the speed to get away, there's no point in it. Maybe give it two thruster mounts so there's a real reason for it having the extra speed, as all fighters seem to have the same top speed regardless of the thruster attached?

Ahh, beaten to it.....

Arrow civilian interceptor - bluntpencil2001 - 08-24-2007

Well, cap ships mount the same thrusters as fighters and go slower... LFs should be able to go faster if someone decided to do this.

Arrow civilian interceptor - me_b_kevin - 08-24-2007

i am all for LF's being faster. it just makes sense.

i think there normal speed should be increased also. instead of 80 maybe make it 90

these things are supposed to be fast...but aren't any faster than other ships

even their descriptions talk about them being fast...where's the speed?

(yes i am a LF pilot)

Mate, all you have to do is make the Arrow itself faster, then the afterburner provides all the needed thrust remaining. That would make the Arrow go 250m/s without the AB. But with only two guns (make em class 7 if it goes this fast please) or rather...we could for the first time have specific missile mounts. So yeah, give this thing about two CD launchers...make it go fast. And no one will be able to get away from the force pursuing. There goes all shield running problems. And if this ship does low enough damage it shield running won't be a big deal as it cannot do much damage.

Arrow civilian interceptor - me_b_kevin - 08-24-2007

i don't think we'd have to be too excessive with the speed. i'm sure the "Biggies" wouldn't go for that big of a speed jump. that being said, what is a reasonable maximum speed increase?

Arrow civilian interceptor - Gamazson - 08-24-2007

well if cruise is 350, make the interceptor class go exactly that with thruster. A thruster powers up allot faster than a cruise engine and the pilot still has benefit of his weapons. A skilled pilot would be able to cut of the escaping enemy and put a CD up his pipe. (only one CD though, 2 would be ludicrous)
