The Good Coalition Doctor - DrKurt - 06-18-2010 "Alright, bare with me a sec" Caesera paused and casually threw the old heart into a small steel container, "Okay, I'm ready for the new ticker" Caesera took the new heart from Holliday's careful hands, placing it slowly into place. "If you could grab that tin over there and standby with the tools, I'd appreciate it" Caesera smiled, pointing to a small tin next to the Doc, He worked his way carefully with the new organic stitches, calculating and measuring each length and thread position. "This takes alot of practice, it's a relatively new method of stitching it back together, with specially formed organic materials, it helps accelerate the healing process" Caesera ducked his head and began work on a smaller tube to the heart, "This method of recovery is know as the 'Frietz Procedure', thought up and put into practice by a Rheinlander, he recently published a medical journal" He paused and took another of the small tools from the Doc's tin, "It's not massively difficult, and less risky than previous procedures of it's kind" Caesera finished up and threw his stitching tools back in the tin, "Do you wanna Defib the new ticker into life or should I?" The Good Coalition Doctor - Doc Holliday - 06-18-2010 John just smiled beneath his mask, "Why I would be honored to restore this man's life." He then took the defib paddles, much smaller than the traditional ones used and placed them one either side of the heart. Before he charged them, he admired the handy work of his counterpart. "Nice stitching, Doctor," he said in admiration, "I will have to get me a copy of that journal for my library." He then had Dr. Caesera charge the defib machine a prepared to shock the new heart into life. Once the charge was full, he cleared the area and charged the heart. At first, it didn't appear to work but within a few seconds, the heart started to beat. From under his mask, John Holliday smiled and watched. It wasn't everyday that one could watch a beating heart without a scan. He then moved off just a bit so that Dr. Caesera could also admire his own handywork. "I would say that we have suceeded, Sir," he admired in his old world drawl. Before they began closing up the patient, he again handed Caesera another tool, "I think you will find this most handy. It works on the same principle as the cutting laser however it is a fusing laser which eliminates the need for stitching and makes scars virtually non-existent, nothing more than that white line on your bottom lip that we all have." As they worked, Holliday asked him, "It is my understanding that the Coalition has the cure for lung cancer. I would like the information on that if possible." He smiled again under his mask, "If I can, I will leave you with a supply of these tools and a little something else you will find handy." The Good Coalition Doctor - DrKurt - 06-18-2010 "You've done quite enough by bringing us supplies when we needed them most, the least I can do is share such knowledge with you" Caesera waved for the surgical assistants to come in and start the post-surgical procedures, "You are a good ally of the people, much like us, this method in particular will help alot of people, particularly those from the Leeds system" He paused and thought for a moment, "I'll explain in detail at a later date, you'll receive all the data necessary to perform such treatment shortly, I'll wire it personally from my terminal" Caesera pushed the swinging door open for the Doc, following him into the wash basins in the next room, "The surgical assistants will finish up with Vladmir, I'm sure he'll be up and about in no time" Caesera removed his gloves and protective gown, washing his hands in one of the sinks, "All thanks to you, I really couldn't have done it without you" Caesera smiled again and extended a hand to shake. The Good Coalition Doctor - Doc Holliday - 06-18-2010 After scrubbing up himself, John Holliday took Dr. Caesera's hand and shook it. "It was my pleasure to assist," he stated with a smile, "I can walk out of here with the thought that I learned something new. I am a firm believer in that not learning something new each day is a day wasted." As they left the room, he turned to Caesera, "I do believe I remember something about Synth Vodka? I could use one!" The Good Coalition Doctor - DrKurt - 06-18-2010 "I'll have a few crates secured on your ship, though you are more than welcome to join me in my office" Caesera led the Doc through the corridors towards the elevators, "Up we go" The floor above was full of administration rooms, offices and examination rooms, less of a 'hospital feel' from the floors below, "I have a fresh bottle in my drawer, and a few glasses" Caesera strode into his office and slumped down in his chair, indicating the empty chair opposite to the Doc, "So how'd you get started in Dentistry?" Caesera asked, pouring Vodka into the two empty glasses and nudging one towards the Doc. The Good Coalition Doctor - Doc Holliday - 06-19-2010 He took the glass of vodka and swirled it around in his glass, watching it as it swirled. With a nod, he took a sip of it and let it saturate his palate. "You were not lying, Doctor. This is quite good." He then finished the shot. He then thought of the question he was asked. So many secrets he held within him of his origins and for once he was asked in a way that didn't require a "when." "My father," he began, "My father wanted me to be successful and to help people so at his urging, I took up dentistry." He thought for a moment, "some things do not change as it seems that there are still too many who have no clue as to what a tooth brush is." He again thought for a moment, "In as good a dentist as I am, I found it boring by itself so I started studying pediatrics, family practice and other fields of medicine. Why did I? Well, with all the refugees from the various wars going on, I wanted to give a place for people to go regardless of who they were and be able to treat a condition, no matter how serious. That was how the concept of Med.Force.One was created. Minus a few donations, it was paid for entirely by my own hard work and I assisted in it's designing process." He sat back and smiled, "Sorry for being so long winded. A bad habit I still have." The Good Coalition Doctor - DrKurt - 06-19-2010 "Not a problem, It's nice to talk to someone outside of the Coalition on occasion, good to get an outside perspective" Caesera smiled, offering a refill, "I was always pushed by my parents to go into Medicine, even when I had other dreams, they made sure those dreams melted away though, sometimes I could have sworn they weren't my parents at all..." Caesera took a sip, "Always pushing me to be the best, choosing my path for me, until I had nowhere else to go but towards their ultimate goal" He smiled and finished the shot off, "I served various clinics after medical school, learning how stuff was done, but never really in control, until I volunteered to help Refugees, much like yourself, though I ended up on Holman outpost" Caesera refilled his own glass, "One of your TAZ transports was moving Refugees to the colonies here in 52, and I tagged along with my Eagle, and made my way to the recruitment office" He smiled, "And here I am today, seems we share that habit of dragging it out, eh?" he chuckled lightly The Good Coalition Doctor - arvg - 06-20-2010 Alvin Katz, Premier of the Coalition, escorted by two stony faced Commissariat officers, charged with his protection at all times, walked into the bar. He was wearing his typical long brown coat, and a loosened tie. Hair was greying, the pressures of the position, and of leading the Coalition. But he still had that same fire that had seen him a Sub-Lieutenant out on the frontier. Walking over to Doc Holliday's table, he extended his hand, completely ignoring Caesera. "John, good to see you... I am afraid you have to come with me. Matters of state..." His eyes were tight, the very fact that he had come personally, meant something important was happening. He guided John by the shoulder as they walked across the medical center towards the great windows. Guards forming a screen of bodies between the two men and the rest of the officers gathered. "I am sorry, John," Katz said, sincerely. The Good Coalition Doctor - Doc Holliday - 06-20-2010 Confused, John Holliday stayed where we was escorted, unsure of what was going on. He knew by the sheer magnitude of the amount of men present and of the reputation of a Coalition soldier that something was wrong, very wrong. As no weapons were yet drawn on himself, he just stood, confused, waiting for what was next. The Good Coalition Doctor - arvg - 06-20-2010 Katz turned his back to the room, staring out of the window as he sank his hands into his pockets. The view of Volgograd was breathtaking from ZG, and he realized how much he missed it, too much time spent in the Duma, sorting out the myriad of problems plaguing the reconstruction efforts on JiangXi. He was feeling old... very old that day. "I sometimes find it easier to stare at the white clouds of this system," Katz said, poignantly. "It reminds me that even though there is sometimes darkness, here, we're surrounded by light." |
