it makes me wonder - ProwlerPC - 10-05-2010

Yeah I don't actually pirate on the odd time I go on my NLH. I harass similar to what Jinx is mentioning. Like CDng traders and not letting them go until they finnish listening to my seemingly endless (to them I imagine) propoganda. It's been awhile but I loved to irritate silent traders in a certain way (I actually would do this and probably still will do this with several chars) but a silent trader/smuggler will end up with it's engines thruster blown off and I'll follow him/her patiently with my CDs while spamming the system with propoganda. I literally force them to cross entire systems on impulse while staying close enough that they can't F1 and my CDs won't let them cruise. Terrorism at an interesting level as the ignores OOC pms I receive of "//FFS!!! just kill me will you!!!!!!!!!!" don't make me falter in the slightest. It's probably a good thing I only come out rarely to terrorize

Heresy = Action that has been deemed as such
Heretic = Individual who has been labeled as one
Terrorist = Individual who has been labeled as one
Freedom fighter = Individual who has been labeled as one
Pirate = ......

Piracy -generally- consists of people going out and plundering because they have to. Stealing shipments of food, fuel, and yes, ransom demands. Things needed for them to survive, not because it's "fun" or they want to "stick it to the man".

My opinion on <strike>disco</strike> pirates / terrorists, if they're trying to get a point of -any- sort across (NLH, Xenos, AFA, GC, Dragons), then they're in the terrorist / freedom fighter catagory.

The "gimme 2 million, or I'll gut you and bathe with your entrails" tridents are...well, psychopaths. They don't quite fit in as terrorists, although they do terrorize....but are certainly not pirates, per say.

There was a point, somewhere. And Ivan....yes, although very readable, your text was a tad too long.

A More or less Related Note:
[10/4/2010 2:16:49 PM] aerelm: Well, Merc ID is the Secret Terrorist ID, You just have to use it right.
[10/4/2010 2:17:34 PM] aerelm: A Terrorist can shoot at anyone on sight, preferably after saying "Muhahahaha", except the one's he's friendly with because of his own personal diplomacy.
[10/4/2010 2:17:49 PM] aerelm: A Mercenary can shoot at anyone on sight, preferably after saying "u have bonty", except the one's he's friendly with because of his own personal diplomacy.
See? It's not just the Pirates, other Groups might have Similar situations as well... Which brings us to this conclusion: Space is a Cruel place.

And... Do I have to explain why I shoot BAF in my Nyx, and BMM in my Behemoth?

Definitely a fine line.

As mentioned above by snoozzer, when I'm on various "unlawful" characters, the situation is entirely different to why each circumstance comes up, but at the end of the day, due to game mechanics, the situation is "Do what I say or you will suffer x concequence." (usually death)

It really is the preceeding circumstances, especially in choice of targets and purpose for "pirating".
---As a GC, I look for anyone carrying cargo going to or coming from a Samura/KNF base. If they ARE, then I tax them a ton or take a portion of their cargo. (Goddess forbid if they are Samura, then they're screwed.)
VERSUS
---As a rogue (read generic pirate), usually the pirate won't discriminate in targets, except maybe based on a "what the heck can I get out of this trader" type reasoning.

Pirates dun' hunt navy/police.
They keep an low profile and try to gain anything of use by raiding convoys.

Terrorists try to give the economy a blow and disrupte things to make people scared of their Terror.

it makes me wonder - Doom - 10-05-2010

i rarely kill in my terrorist char....

But i do try to act scary and spread terror around....usually i shoot only to scare people away or if they are unreasonable and attack me just cause i carry terrorist ID.

In the past i used to ask for donations or cargo, but from any kind of ship...it wasn't important if its a freighter, transport or a cap ship...but just enough for steady flow of train CDs....

So i think there is distinct difference between terrorists and pirates in disco...

Also a note, Muahahahaha was trade mark of only one terrorist....rest of us actually do talk...

So after all this is gathered, why do Pirate ID people act like terrorists while terrorists themselves do not act so vile?

Pirates ain't smart and get out of line quickly.

Terrorists are more organised and will think before acting.

Out of role play terrorists are now looked at, watched over and scrutinized in every move they make. So they are careful.

In role play, i agree with post above

My Rogues would rather those people get in their cargo pods before the ship blew up so that we could collect them. Niverton can always use more slaves, so no one has to die.

Explosions are interesting, but then, as Spaz says, no profit.
