It -shouldn't- be competitive, but I mean, at heart it's about being better than the other guy...

That aside, I don't see why everyone has to metagame so much... it's not hard not to.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and agree with Zelot. I know it's surprising, but when you start just playing the game for its own sake instead of trying to be better than the next guy, it's a lot more fun and a lot less frustrating.

On another note, it really goes both ways. Metagaming wouldn't happen if people wouldn't make a big deal and just RP around it anyway. If I had a credit for everytime I flew into a system and someone said " Phantom! I know you!" before I ever said anything, Battleships would pay for themselves, but instead of going "RAWR, Y U MAKE METAGAME AT ME!?" I stick to my RP and just roll with it. Amazing how that works, huh?

No, I don't mean in game with IDs and all that. That is easily worked around, yes.

I'm talking when you have certain agreements that, in RP, are supposed to be top secret, yet you have people acting and behaving as if its unspoken common knowledge. Agreements like the Corsair/Core NAP and the like.

Well, since no one has any interest in preventing metagaming I guess we can all stop calling each other metagamers?

Good discussion. Much accomplished.

I have no fear of metagamers, in any shape or form. I always want GMG| RP to be both in-game and on forums. I always want GMG| RP to be open, out there, and capable of being looked up. As long as I'm here GMG| will not have a seperate forum and I will never participate in factions that operate on seperate forums. Our stories are made for us to Role Play out and for others to read at their leisure. No metagamer will ever come close to causing me any concern or fear that I'd suddenly go actually secretive with our RP. Yeah GMG does shady stuff but as a player outside of my char I am quite fine with saying that I as a "lawful" GMG conspire with terrorist groups to achieve my goals. Go ahead and metagame ingame my OOC statement in this OOC thread and see how far that will get you. Actual true metagaming is easy to spot and easy to ignore. The rest of the metagaming name calling is just hot air, also easy to ignore.

On the flip side. I won't believe that your fleet is massive and uber if there is nothing to point to about it but your own words at the time of questioning. You might very well think in your head and talk about it in your chat and hidden forums but if there is no public evidence to support the claims of your "massive" fleet then it simply won't be considered as anything but a reactionary ruse in a situation you wish for yout group to get a one up on.

Against it. I love reading up on the various happenings of Sirius. I don't care if they effect me or not, the politics and role play make it entertaining to be in the know.

How then would you suggest we isolate knowledge gained from one player's character from another of his characters? For instance, what if I have both an Outcast and a Corsair? I'd be privy to knowledge that you would suggest is restricted by necessity. The issue can never be dealt with beyond self control. And I believe that this is possible. I agree with Kanga, this shouldn't be difficult.

It does suck when others metagame. It can ruin situations and all that, I just don't feel that this is the solution to that problem. I think that your suggesting that we don't care because we don't agree with your ideas is drawing false conclusions.

No, my point is to show that we have become complacent with knowing all, and end up like monkeys throwing feces when someone *gasp* slips up and metagames.

The real point? Be nice to each other. This is supposed to be a community, not a daycare without supervision.
