Armistice Upside Down - sadtranslation - 02-12-2011 "As one of the men I met said, we’re a political organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life for all who live in Bretonia, even our enemies, though they are too blind to see it. I couldn't say it better. And Bretonia knows that. We work along with the Green Front - a political party that shares our ideas and ideals along with approximately twenty percent of bretonians. The problems are common and well-known. Unfortunately, we can't just put an end to the things happening. Leeds turned into a single production facility and Bretonian Mining and Metals attempted to set up operations on Gaia numerous times. Planetform, eh, the people who made destruction of natural enviorement for economical needs their main business are in no way better wiht their poaching license." Sequoia paused, scratching her left ankle with the right foot and concentrating on balance, so she needed a couple more seconds to continue. "Our method, mister Sanders, is economical warfare. We can't simply stop finishing off of Leeds, the the most densely populated planet in Sirius with the largest amount of diceases caused by the pollution of biosphere - but we make one step after another by harassing their mining operations in Dublin. One day or another we will finally force them to turn off their facilities and start cleaning of planet and system. We do the same to Planetorm by making their work on Harris and Ayr too expensive to continue. By collapsing their operations on lifeless planets, we stop them from altering the existing living worlds for their profits" Had she said everything right? Probably. Sequoia never thought of herself as a spokesman for such cases. But she had to speak a lot lately, to explain people that they never were a bunch of bloody terrorists following ther radical goals to interrupt technological progress. Progress is unavoidable, but the ends don't justify the means when it comes to advance and that was the simple truth they all knew. "And finally that incident - it was a terrible mistake - the one of those that happen in Dublin, that should better be called Klondike to fit the history of how low moral ground can one take when to comes to gold. Excuse me that silly reference, mister Sanders. There are too many people with their own goals there, fighting each other and finally missing the reasons behind eveything in the end. But all that was somehow ideological and romantic and you would like to pay more attention to 'business', right?" Armistice Upside Down - AeternusDoleo - 02-15-2011 "It's not wrong to keep sight of one's own ideals. But I see your point." John responded. "And I agree. Had we built a station there instead of a few daredevils chancing to repressurise a derelict battleship, it might well have been called Klondike. Yet economic warfare can be difficult with the BMM, especially on their home turf. We try and compete, but even with the Mollies favoring us over the BMM, we're simply hard pressed to be able to be an effective alternative to the BMM's large scale operations. Out here in the Taus they made the critical misstake of angering Kusari, but in Dublin, and to a lesser extent in Leeds, Manchester, Omega 3 and New London, the BMM operations are largely unchallenged. Leeds is a prime example why that Bretonian policy is a bad one, and as you indicated, roughly 20% of Bretonia feels likewise." John paused, glancing to Elizabeth. "As I recall there's no love lost between the Colonial Republic and BMM, seeing that if they'd have had their way, your home system would likely have become a mining colony of theirs. What are your thoughts on this matter, miss Branwen?" Armistice Upside Down - Mao - 02-15-2011 "Yes, yes, it's true, both BMM and Planetform have done things to the Colonial people. They were the reason of the war between us and Bretonia. However, with the recently signed peace treaty, we won't take part to anything that could cause another conflict.
I agree with you and miss Hart when you say that Bretonia's policy regarding those two corporations is not to bretonians' best interests but yet again, the Colonial Republic can not interfere in the internal affairs of another state, especially a state that just made peace with us after a bloody war." Branwen was used to long speeches but now she stopped. She was not feeling comfortable but an idea came to mind right away. "I will give you an example to understand better the relations between Colonial Republic and Bretonia. Mister Sanders, IMG requested colonial support in Dublin. We were more than happy to offer it, especially when we have some forces without a job since the end of the war with Bretonia. Unfortunately, the Bretonian government denied our task force from entering Dublin. You see..." she paused and added "We will still send some trainers to teach your boys some tactics" then she continued her initial idea "You see, they aren't quite happy with us around so if you want to hurt BMM or Planetform, you will have to do it without the colonial's direct support." Armistice Upside Down - Jack_Henderson - 02-15-2011 Jack leans back in his chair, watching and listening while the field is being prepared by the speakers. He has remained passive so far, not because he had nothing to say, but for the reason of getting some insight into who is who and where the different positions are prepresented in the room. So while the CR-Bretonian issue is being discussed, he rehearses in his mind what he wants to bring up when the talk moves back to economic warfare. He opens the data on his pad to check the numbers then closes it again seeming content. A slight smile goes out to Sequoia. He can almost physically feel her being uncomfortable in that situation and knowing her at least a little, he is pretty sure she must be nervous like hell: 'She's no diplomat...' he thinks and smiles, shrugging off the thought. 'Nevermind... she's doing fine and she's the right one.' and with a knowing and content smile he returns his attention to the CR-Bretonian situation. Armistice Upside Down - AeternusDoleo - 02-15-2011 Johnathan nodded as Elizabeth spoke. "The Republic shares our own problem. Any direct action against either BMM or Planetform that could be traced back to us, would infuriate Bretonia. And our own interests in Cambridge, Dublin and Newcastle, all important in their own way, would pay the price. We did not ask for the Colonial Republic's direct aid for any agressive actions against BMM. Our trouble lays more with the occasional overwhelming Corsair and Hogosha raiders. The Colonial Republic's fighter squads have a history of being able to stand against large numbers of Outcasts - those tactics will be of value in Dublin, in those conditions. But I digress." John paused a moment, looking to Sequoia and Druce. "The Gaian movement's tactics, and your ability to act outside of Bretonian law, gives you an advantage in this situation. However, as I understand it, numbers are few, and we can do very little to assist you directly. Given recent developments in Bretonia I expect the Guild to be under intense scrutiny, especially from the Bretonian Intelligence wings. If it is direct military support you came for, or access to our craft or weapons, I do not see how we can assist you and still remain welcome in Bretonia. I... am open to suggestions." Armistice Upside Down - Jack_Henderson - 02-15-2011 "Perhaps, this is the time when some additional information about the operational status quo in the anti-BMM efforts should be presented, Ladies and Gentlemen..." Jack clears his throat and continues, using the bridge that Sanders built for him. "There has already been some very successful cooperation between myself and Nature's Last Hope forces, although restricted to the Dublin IMG Ops. I decided to keep that off the official channels because we need plausible deniability in case a link is suspected or some information is leaked. Let me elaborate a bit how it has been done, and we might assess whether it can work that way in the future... perhaps on a larger scale." "My personal contacts to Ms. Hart and an incident in which BMM miners fired at me without provocation and was protected by BAF and IAB triggered the cooperation." "I informed Ms. Hart about position and other relevant operational details on a secure comm-channel and we agreed that a donation to the group's effort is just fair. Some 20 minutes later the miner was hit by Nature's Last Hope ships, while alone in the field." "This is one example of 14 hits that the cooperation between myself and a small number of handpicked agents of the NLH - all personally known to me - has produced so far." "From an operational perspective I'd assess it as a success, a win-win situation for all involved parties. Sometimes we even could salvage the ore or buy it via third party vendors." "So much for the status of the Dublin side of an already running covert cooperation, even though it is still small scale." and he leans back, smiling to Sequoia and waiting for what would happen next. Armistice Upside Down - sadtranslation - 02-16-2011 "Mister Henderson is right", Sequoia nodded, "For a certain period of time a wing of Gaians under my command were operating using the tactical information provided by Guild. Such help is priceless since it gives us knowledge about the general situation in Dublin, coordinates of Bretonian Mining and Manufacturing operations and Bretonian Armed Forces partols. In other words it saves time and allows us to avoid unnecessary risks. I can also remember that during one of our last operations, we noticed a certain degree of cooperation between BMM and Outcasts, and from the information we obtained, it is actually approved or ignored by the present high ranked Bretonian Armed Forces officers." Sequoia stopped, replaying recent incidents in her mind and collecting all the contacts and all the operations into one logical construction. In the corner of her eye she noticed Druce gesturing to her. She sat down and listened to what he was saying. One sitting nearby may hear the words "mercentary" and "reputation" and something about turning all the situation upside down for the greater good. Her face almost brightened up. Just a couple of seconds later she was right behind Jack, whispering to him. Armistice Upside Down - Kontrazec (Somni) - 02-16-2011 Ever since the start of the meeting,Jonah had been leaned against Druce's recliner quietly. He spoke briefly,as he saw Sequoia walk over to Jack; "I be thinkin'...dis deal...it got potential. Jus'...one ting'. It ain't gunna look too bright on yah record if yah seen workin' wit' us...an' truth be told,I ain't really likin' da whole 'IMG assists BAF against Gaians' tingy. So...Tell yah wha'. If yah can,try ta' avoid gettin' inta' fights. Who da hell knows where a stray SNAC can end.In return...I personally gunna uphold a quota o' scrapped BMM hegemonsta's every month." That being told,he shoots a glare at Sequoia, then at Druce, and turns slowly, nodding to himself and playing with one of his dreadlocks. Armistice Upside Down - Jack_Henderson - 02-17-2011 Jack faces Jonah and nods: "We try to avoid being seen together and Gaian ships can't be near Hood when Bretonian Army vessels or others are close..." he explains. "I sadly have to state that Gaians are still not careful and subtle enough in the use of Hood. You can improve things in this aspect." "And... I think you got something wrong, Sir. The one time I 'assisted' BAF in the fight was because I was basically forced. I told your commander that I'd be firing somewhere, then retreat. I am not aware of any noteable hostilities in which IMG forces fought Gaians. But if there were... I'd like to know the details, and the names. This... can be avoided. I can improve in that point..." he smiles and nods. Sequoia whispers him a few words, and Jack clears his throat again: "But perhaps we should discuss these operations details later... because there is something more important. There is an idea... it's not more up to now. What do you think about the following proposal..." he leans forward, putting his elbows on the desk: "The IMG uses its financial power to pay for the disruptions of some unpleasant elements in Bretonia. The bounty could be placed via third parties in order to keep us out of this completely. We'd mask the flow of money through some well hidden channels and make sure that there are some incentives to go for some of our common enemies." he leans back... "This could also include not only Gaians, but I'm thinking of adressing some other tools, too. Reavers for example could be interested in claiming it, too. By increasing our own share of operations in Dublin and decreasing the operational capabilities of our rivals, we might profit in the end." "I know, these are extreme measures but it's not like we haven't been provoked and fired at. We've had our fair share of losses and in my opinion this here is exactly the circle of people to openly discuss issues like this. Soooo...." he exhales audibly... "What is your opinion on a plan that has been bred from anger in Dublin..." and he smiles the devious smile of a politician who is angry at someone not present in the room... Armistice Upside Down - AeternusDoleo - 02-18-2011 "I concur." Johnathan replied, although he looked pensive "With Druce. Direct, overt cooperation between us is just going to cause us both more problems then it's worth. We must be seen as little as possible together. Hood is but an example, it is best to make your stay there as brief as can be. It is a shame the Gaians and the Mollies are at odds, when your goals are largely convergent in the sense that they carry even less love for the BMM then we do." Johnathan paused a moment. He looked to Elizabeth, then to Druce... trying to gauge their take on the proposal. "Perhaps... Jack, that idea is not so bad after all. The Reavers is one thing. A few elite fighters, but... nothing in the numbers that it could hurt BMM structurally. No... The Mollies. I know a significant portion of them are very discontent with the current situation. That discontent needs a focal point - something they can vent on. I'd rather not make that point our own operations south of Arranmore. A few days ago I would not have thought to sanction something like this. But with continuous reports from the field about BMM agression, and the Armed Forces reluctance to crack down on this, suggests they are gearing up towards foul play again. I wouldn't be surprised if they would seek to blockade Hood in the near future." He looked to Elizabeth, seemingly adressing her. "We all know what they sought to do to us in the Taus. And the price they, and we, paid for it." He looked to Druce, and Sequoia. "The Guild has recently gone into a small venture with the Gallic Metal Service, at Java. They needed a refueling point, and pay us generously for it. We also still have an amount of credits received from the Isle de France traders. These funds are Gallic of origin... And we have yet to transfer them over, from their end. I propose we use those credits to fund, and sustain this proposed incentive. Gallia has linked it's own currency to that of the Sirian credit, so the value of this income is fixed. The reason I propose this... if a mercenary influx starts to appear in Dublin, I have no doubt the Bretonian intelligence services will investigate. Their trail will die then - where Gallic credchips are converted to Sirius ones. I also propose we open this to the Mollies - but we should not tell them who is supplying those funds. That way those guys make a few extra credits, and are given a reason to cease BMM's respite from them. What are your thoughts on this?" |
