Battleship terror - Igiss - 07-16-2005 Quote:This encourages intelligent piloting, plotting less known courses, and general awareness. As you know, player location is displayed for others, and it's not quite that complicated to chase a player along his course. There are complicated systems line NY that have a large network of trade lanes, but most others are quite linear, only one or two ways and nowhere to hide. Away from trade lanes there are more possibilities to set up an alternative course, but this will make trader's life very dull, and trading itself far too lengthy. Battleship terror - daedalus - 07-16-2005 Wrath and Circadian_Lupine - well put, I agree totally. I've found trading quite dull so far simply because I haven't yet been challenged once or forced to think about my route. I haven't needed to think about hiring someone else to protect me. I think the PvP rules are fine. Battleship terror - Circadian_Lupine - 07-17-2005 Igiss, there ARE more ways through a system than the tradelanes... All the chat screen tells you is what system someone is in. If one uses cruise engines and jump holes instead of gates it's very possible to slip through a system undetected. Which brings me to a second point, which probably belongs in the "4.74" thread but oh well. Is there any chance of increasing the cruise engine velocity to 500m/s or 600m/s? still much less than tradelanes of course, but cruising 20 or 30 kilometers between jump holes is pretty boring at the stock 300m/s. It would be a relatively simple and minor change to the constants.ini that would add some spice to the game. /just a thought Battleship terror - Wrath - 07-17-2005 Moments ago my Gunboat was attacked by a sabre with a vicious torpedo attack. I respoded with a barrage of fire that silenced the infidel instantly. Circadian_Lupine was witness to the event. He was also attacked by this sabre, and I waied patiently until once again the dreaded words incoming torpedo were heard before I blew him into pieces a second time. I just wanted to document the attack before someone accused me of attacking first..... well I did sort of lay into his large transport on a different character, however that is a pvp enabled vessel. Battleship terror - Denier-of-Soup - 07-17-2005 Trust me Igiss, chasing someone isn't as easy as it seems. Oh and a bit of advice for the rest: don't mess with Wrath. >_> Battleship terror - Wrath - 07-17-2005 Interestingly enough, the only people who can guarantee an enemy wont run are fighters. No Capital ships have cruise disruption, however if you know where someone is running, say perhaps the most lucrative trade route, you can wait for them to approach their destination, blast them and steal their cargo. Battleship terror - Circadian_Lupine - 07-20-2005 Muahahaha, i have scrambled my way up to the Liberty Dreadnaught. I have finally joined the ranks of the battleship terrors. I have finally.... found the freeworlds mod.... As an uber star wars geek i am unfortunately required to drop everything and live vicariously through a freeworlds server until such time as my eyes explode from my skull. Luckily this will only take a week or so if i skip sleep and food. It was fun playing with you guys here on the discovery server, and i'll be back just in time to realise that you all got better stuff while i was gone :-p So have fun and i'll see you again sometime! Battleship terror - Denier-of-Soup - 07-20-2005 Why you little... >:0 Give me all your money! Battleship terror - Profile - 07-20-2005 The Battleships Terrors don't scare me now , I've bought the Osiris ! :D So pay attention of what are you doing , now !!! ;) Battleship terror - Denier-of-Soup - 07-20-2005 Oh you'll be scared soon enough. The ship I'm planning now isn't an ordinary Bretonian battleship, you know. |
