Move the lighting.dll and lighting.ini file in the EXE folder of freelancer, then open dacom.ini, in the [Libraries] section add in the list lighting.dll, save it.

Open lighting.ini, change the % to 15(I personally use 25%).


The only problem i saw so far is that sometimes you have to start freelancer two times, since the first time the process will load, but the game won't start. Just kill the process freelancer.exe from taskmanager and start it again.

Opening the mod file with FLMM works fine.

I have done some basic testing, and according to FRAPS, there is no difference in FPS. Note that these were all stationary screenshots in order to get an easy before/after comparison.

I set the lighting to 20%.

As an aside, I'm on a 15" widescreen laptop at 1680x1050.

I was a bit unimpressed with the final result, to be honest, but it is more realistic.
I'm now going to try this with the inbuilt Bloom mod enabled, and see how it turns out then, and turn it down to 15%.
Before/after pictures for that coming soon.

Edit: My FPS was a stable 60 the entire time.

the percentage of the lightning mod depends on your FL gamma settings too. since im using the ENB project jack are working on i have to use 0.0 Gamma, which means even 15% is totally overkill

EDIT: did a quick FPS test, didnt bother to upload pics as i lost only 4FPS (from my usual 35 to 31)

This time I turned the lighting down to 10%, and enabled the Bloom feature that comes with discovery.

My FPS was still at 60 the entire time.

This seems to have created the best combination so far; the shadows are darker, while the bloom 'glow' gives the effect of softening the harsher edges of some objects. I haven't tested inside a nebula or asteroid field; that will come in the near future.

Unfortunately photobucket squashes the images a bit so they're not at the original resolution.

If anyone else cares to do some comparisons, that would be cool.

the disco ENB sucks.... Jack's ENB is better. But then again, the differences in FPS drop are huge

Just to clear this up, what about a user-made mod?
For example, I created a HUD and a galaxy map mod on my machine. You won't find them on any site on the net, and I cannot attach anything to the pms/mails here via forums (or I am too stupid:laugh:) to send a zip/rar archive with the necessary files to you ... what do I have to do now? :mellow:

I hope you weren't talking about graphics mods. Some of the members already fights with their FPS. I think putting mod which would enhance the graphic will make those members to loose that fight.

Not if said graphics mod is optional and can be turned on or off during main mod activation.

I wish people would stop going on about their 20 year old machines and keep holding our mod back in terms of graphics. There's always a compromise.
