But this bug makes it too powerful, and I do not know if it is possible to fix. The turrets were just about perfect before, I'd change them back to how they were not make them any more powerful.... that might be fun for a moment but it might really shift the balance around too much. No one seemed to think they were too weak or too strong how they were in 4.73 if you still have those values lying around. 4.74 Discussion - Igiss - 07-19-2005 Yes, that's true. All battleship shields cannot be hit by rocket fire. Well-known bug, that's the reason why they are removing shields from Evolutions. But lack of shields causes camera shaking, which, believe me, is much worse in a PvP fight (any fight, actually) than disabled rockets. Asked about this camera shaking long ago at Pathfinders, they told that it's impossible to change this. 4.74 Discussion - Denier-of-Soup - 07-19-2005 It's no big deal, Igiss. Energy weapons are enough to take down the shields on capital ships. I should say that I don't like the poll part of this thread much, there are many more things added in 4.74 apart from rebalanced weapons and you shouldn't estimate the whole mod on this basis. I was just letting you know that everyone I talked to who had a battleship didn't like the weapon changes. Some voted indifferent because they got to use a new ship which was a plus but this was counteracted by the weaker weapons which were as much of a negative as the new ships were positive. I'd like to applaud you on how quickly you changed the mod after hearing our feedback. In thruth this poll is no longer necessary and it no longer gives any sort of accurate count as to opinions on the new version(s). As it no longer serves a purpose, I dont think anyone would mind if you removed the thread. And actually most ships have at least 1 angle where you can hit them with rockets. However, the Rheinland battleship has zero; it is completely missile immune. The Kusari battleship has at least one correct missile trajectory, as does every other vessel I've taken a look at (except the nomad battleship which needs more testing) 4.74 Discussion - Igiss - 07-20-2005 I renamed the thread and removed poll from it. The reason for shield bug is simple. Rheinland battleship is much bigger than others. And shield is an ellipse-shaped structure that is outside ship for small ships, and inside for larger ones. Laser weapons do reach the shield through hull, however, rockets explode on the ship hull (because they have collision, unlike other weapons) and the explosion does not reach the shield. On other balleships there are places where shield may be damaged by rockets because they are thin, Rheinland however is too large. One solution that may work is repositioning the shield hardpoint to another part of the ship, I'll try it in 4.75. 4.74 Discussion - Wrath - 07-20-2005 There are a few other ships that you might want to work on repositioning..... the Liberty cruiser for one is very very tough to hit with missiles. Soup tells me that you can hit the Rheinland hull with missiles after you drain the shield, or maybe I'm very tired and wrong, possibly imagining that...... You could always leave the Rheinland vessel the way it is and say it's supposed to be that way due to fine German craftsmanship; Rheinland battleships have incorporated breakthrough explosive abosrption technology which make them impervious to missile fire. I think it could work.... At least that way it sounds cool. Besides, there are other ships with much more powerful weaponry. I just bought a Kusari battleship, and plan on having someone help me test the missile situation there later. I know that if you shoot it just right the Kusari battleship has a vunerable missile point. I still feel resintment over decomishioning my Rheinland cruiser, she was a might fine vessel. I'm also not sure the Osiris/Dreadnaut can be hit by missiles. I have fired missile salvos from a few angles and have yet to find the proper trajectory. From another point of view it might make the mod more diverse if some ship hulls are weak vs missiles and others are not. That would be a step in making ships throught the universe in pc hands less uniform (which is good in my opinion)..... it's sorta boring to see everyone in the same vessel. The Osiris and RHeinland battleship are also the most expensive ships for sale, perhaps the cost is due to that marvelous new technology! The other solution I was thinking about is what if you took flak turrets and made their explosions really really big? (think sonic mines in episode 2 of star wars) That might be neat, because then they would..... have a purpose. This approach would also make people be careful about firing off 50 or so missiles at a time because they would definately hit stray npcs who have this ingenious ability to get in the way. That would also be something I would see as a plus. One final note..... it would be cool if nomad gunboats/battleships dropped their turrets, or maybe other rare super nomad tech. |
