But like all things in life, we should find a middle ground. No extreme tag/ID rules either mate.

The problem is that a lot of traders think they can just go out and be Zoner and they'll be left alone by pirates. Every other trader I run into uses a Zoner ID. Its becoming so bad I pirate Zoners anyway, unless they are part of the Zoner council, or I know the person and they actually do RP as a Zoner.
These people don't spend anything more than whats required to get the Zoner ID. There are even people that, when you go pirate them, they say; "Are you stupid? Look at my ID I'm a Zoner!" One even threatened to report me to admins for pirating him when he was using a Zoner ID.. With a Republican tag.

I've ensured that my characters keep the same ID that goes with the tag they're wearing, because all my characters belong to a player faction. When it comes to me looking at the other people around, if their* tag is off but their ID is of a friendly faction to their tag, then I don't have a problem, but when I see Liberty Police tagged Order ID'd characters...then I have to make a gripe. That's completely and utterly OoRP in my book.
In other words we shouldn't have such a strict rule on tagging/ID'ing characters, but if you're in a player faction, you had best get the correct tag/ID, since you do belong to a player faction after all.
*Edit:...I actually used the wrong "there", for once...damn that's not often.

I think that if you are going to have a tag that does not match your ID, make sure the two factions are friendly to each other at the LEAST. Neutral or Hostile? No. Neutral might work, but that drags us back to the popular "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should" speech.

Voted.. yes..after thinking... I have Zoner tag/ID... and my repp set all to neutral but 5 enemies and one friend (Zoners) took me while to do it, and by then i was taged bloody Synth Food.... But for good RP you need to have your char properly taged/ID ... but transition phases can be long, painful and hard and only thing we can do is to warn every single one of them to get his chars straight...
Traders with police ID... i rarely see trader with any corporation/faction ID... all i see is Police and Navy

I believe that tag and Id should match as closely as possible, yes the game is called Freelancer but each character chooses the direction he wants to go in. Whilst the rep sheet is not massively important on the RP server I do believe it should reflect the loyalties the player has chosen for his character and let's face it, you get thirty levels to fix the rep sheet to the way you want it. It's not hard to get the tag you need, all of my charcters run the tag and ID of the factions I've allied them to. I honestly beleive that other players should take the time to do the same.
