Shouldn't Shetland be moved to Cambridge? - Dab - 11-22-2011 While Cambridge is an option, any other suggestions on possible locations for it to be moved to would be helpful. Keep in mind these locations should look visually pleasing, considering that's the purpose of the luxury liner. Shouldn't Shetland be moved to Cambridge? - Gypsie Skripto - 11-23-2011 Not the primary purpose of this particular luxury liner, which has benefited a bit more of its hideout characteristics. As Jammi said in the other thread, a getaway for Bret VIPs to indulge themselves on vice and leisure. I dont think that for this particular luxury liner guests care that much for what they see through the window. I think they care more for what they can peek through a keyhole. So, as long as it remains in Bretonia, it will still be a profitable endeavour. Obviously, until teleportation is invented, it wont be profitable inside a locked system. Shouldn't Shetland be moved to Cambridge? - Taneru - 11-23-2011 A 'hideout' still needs a 'cover story'. Not to mention the .... reputation that comes with being considered a 'palace of immorality'. Vices aren't considered immoral for nothing, and having that label on a place is liable to drive people away, which results in lost income. Income is rather important to corporations, after all. I dont buy it. It wouldn't take me long to re edit the OLD info cards that are already in use for that location. also there are new bases with even less material in built. This is an existing base with existing links and information. i appreciate if they lack people or talent or time. But we aren't being told SPECIFICALLY what it is and all we get are these "could be" straw arguments. I didn't see this post last time; Moving a base does not take that much effort, or even much time. In fact, the biggest time drain when a base is moved is the time spent having to rebalance its trade routes. As Xoria has to do that for the Shetland no matter if it is moved or not, that lost time is not a factor in the equation. Moving the Shetland to a new system would require 20-60 minutes of work on my part, plus another 10-15 for a new infocard. So really, the time argument is a non-issue. It doesn't matter, as it doesn't take enough time to be concerned with. Shouldn't Shetland be moved to Cambridge? - AeternusDoleo - 11-23-2011 ' Wrote:Well so be it then. When a Dev tells us how much time would that require, we would have a valid argument. Unitl then, despite you are not being a jerk (and I know you are not), all what you say will just direct hordes of enraged players our way.Involved in moving a base: Old system: - Check all patrol paths terminating at that base are removed - Check removing the base object has no discernable impact for the faction in question, or the factions it will interact with New system: - Check base not in proximity to hostile trade paths. - Check base not in proximity to hostile capital ambient spawns. - Check base trade commodity loadout does not create an imbalanced economy at the new site, for both outgoing and incoming goods (hint, this is timeconsuming). - Check all base components are moving (in case of the liner, this is just one component. For compound bases, this can be a major pain in the rear). - Check the new location does not excessively influence the balance of factions in the new system (hint: Corsairs can dock at OSC bases - even though by ID they can only do so on Hawaii). So while it's technically a very simple thing to do, basically a cut and paste operation, it will have impacts that the admins need to decide on, and the economy will need a readjustment for the trade commodity list of that base. This is not going to be done in Beta 1. It may be done before the final release however - no promises. Shouldn't Shetland be moved to Cambridge? - jammi - 11-23-2011 Tell you what, give me the exact location of where you're planning to put it, and I'll do all of the rumours and the infocard for you. I don't have any dev tasks, so me being busy doesn't hold anything up. Thanks! :yahoo: Also @edran: The reputation gained by being a palace of vice is good publicity, not bad, I agree Planet Gaia wont be an attraction anymore if it is moved, but it does not mean that we loose our most important customers. No, no it most certainly is not good publicity. One of the meanings of the word 'vice' is a bad habit or sin. I'll even list off a few of the synonyms for the word vice, and you can decide if it's really beneficial for publicity: Perversion. Indecency. Corruption. Transgression. Squalor. Rot. These terms do not present a good public image. Shouldn't Shetland be moved to Cambridge? - Skullz - 11-23-2011 I know of a few commodities that will most definitely need to be changed for balance purposes, however I will make a detailed check in the next few days. I will also plan to talk with escopton about vice changes etc etc. Thank you all on behalf of OSC Group Players. I would like to add that a fair few of the OSC bases revolve around Vice, and it is also for that reason why people go to those destinations. It would be true that not all we go for the vice, but those that do aren't going to shout about it either, so that they know they can come again and do their favourite vice on a station that allows them, with in reason. |
