Try deleting your : My games > Freelancer folders
Your past autosave file might crash the Freelancer
Just Delete My games in My documents folder and try launching again

Also try launching Discovery Freelancer.exe instead of Freelancer.exe

I didn't have any "Discovery Freelancer.exe", only "Freelancer.exe". And yes, before you ask, I was looking in the right directory. I am now reinstalling for the third time. Besides, the link in the start menu created by the installation was linking to "Freelancer.exe", not something else.
