Those are huge, hard(er) to create, and not every browser can display them. But if I consider that flaws of .gifs would take a lot more lines to list, it might be good.

PNG cannot be animated. What happens is that SOME imagehosts changes the filetype, but not the original fil structure. The result is a fake .png file that is animated.

There is no animated JPEG either, instead there is a JPEG Network Graphics format, which utilizes the JPEG compression combined with some of the frame and timing settings found in GIF...

Trust me on this, there IS no such thing as animated PNG, there has been attempts to make such files, but the ones who "succeeded" ended up creating files that were unsupported by all browsers and image viewers.
